Job Description:

Are you the energetic person to be an Editor and Correspondence Specialist with Leidos? This important position supports the Office of Defense Programs within the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA).  It provides direct support for managing, editing, and distributing all executive correspondence including congressional reports, inquiries, letters/memorandum, and other related strategic communications.

Must possess an active DOE Q or DoD Top Secret clearance to be considered.

The position is located in the NNSA offices at the Department of Energy Forrestal Building in Washington, D.C.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the Deputy Administrator’s Action Group in responding to actions, implementing communication and organizational processes, and preparing and reviewing documents, presentations, talking points, and speeches for the Deputy Administrator of Defense Programs.

  • Work with program offices and subject matter experts to review and develop materials supporting senior leadership.

  • Work with staff from the NNSA and DOE Executive Secretariat offices for correspondence reviews, concurrence, and signatures on policy and position papers, joint NNSA/DOE and DOD reports, and other decision documents awaiting executive review/action by the Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs, NNSA Administrator, or Secretary of Energy.

  • Assist in developing clear, concise, and polished written products for review by key leaders in Defense Programs and across DOE/NNSA, as well as improving standard operating procedures for the drafting and review of written communications.

  • Review and analyze all incoming Defense Programs correspondence; determine the scope of the subject matter and office of primary responsibility; make office task assignments, track progress, and provide guidance on content and format. Research, identify, and analyze geo-political, technical, and economic issues that must be addressed in responding to incoming assignments and correspondence.

  • Review replies drafted by various components of Defense Programs, analyzing written products for clarity, making sure the conclusions reached are consistent with the facts presented, and recommending major revisions, changes in coverage, or complete reorganization of manuscripts. Analyze content of all correspondence for compliance with applicable directives, procedure, and policies; makes change recommendations.  Prepare all correspondence for review/signature by NNSA senior leadership.

  • Work with the DOE and NNSA Executive Secretariats to manage and track the status of all Defense Programs communications, monitoring the intra- and interagency coordination that accompanies all substantive written products. 

  • Work directly with the Nuclear Weapons Council support team in proper administration of all generated/related executive correspondence. 

  • Assist in managing the Defense Programs and Nuclear Weapon Council SharePoint sites including provide content management and configuration control for the Nuclear Weapon Council Executive Action Officer site.

  • Apply proper safeguards for the storage, distribution, and handling of all protected/classified media in accordance with all related DOE Security Directives.

  • Manage and control the content of materials in two assigned safes. Inventory safe contents and purge files when no longer needed. Perform all applicable security related activities (safe checks/end-of-day security checks, etc.).  Ensure all actions are in full compliance with applicable security directives.

  • Manage control of classified documents produced by the Office of Defense Programs. Assist with classified material, property management, classified removable electronic media management, use control site coordination, accountability, and vault custodianship. 

Required Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years' relevant experience supporting federal government programs (e.g., DHS, DOE, DOD)

  • Self-starter and ability to follow correspondence rules and requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, to include excellent copy editing and proofreading skills

  • Ability to track and prioritize multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment

Desired Qualifications and Education:

  • Master’s degree and 2 years' relevant experience 

  • Experience interacting with senior level government officials and stakeholders

  • Experience coordinating with senior level program managers

  • Experience in or interacting with Executive Secretariat

  • Excitement to work in a fast-paced environment with high visibility

Pay Range:

Pay Range $52,650.00 - $81,000.00 - $109,350.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
