Chief Engineer

Leidos will deliver a significant refresh to the NATS technology and services that manage UK flights once they leave the lower airspace surrounding airports and before they transition to European or Oceanic air traffic control. The Leidos team provides the underlying infrastructure (network, compute, etc.) and integration services for the entire system.
The Role You Will Play:
The Chief Engineer will report to the NATS Account Director and be responsible for the service and technical performance of the various Leidos teams delivering four major areas: current air traffic systems support, future air traffic system delivery, air traffic software solutions and enterprise business IT. The principal focus will be the future system delivery, which encompasses the IT infrastructure (network, compute, storage etc.), system integration and definition of the service itself. This work is of strategic importance to both NATS and Leidos and successful delivery will see the transition to a new, flexible platform for more efficient UK air traffic management solutions.
This role could be filled by an experienced senior engineer who is comfortable working on technology and service solutions.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Working closely with the Account Director and Programme Manager
Building trust between the various NATS and Leidos stakeholders, using clear communication to drive excellence across integrated project teams
Oversight of a portfolio of programmes to provide technical challenge, guidance and innovation
Lead, motivate and communicate effectively across the NATS account engineering team
Identify metrics to measure and improve performance across the NATS account
Track performance against plan, identify and execute plans to mitigate blockers
Act as a conduit to the wider Leidos global team to leverage corporate experience
Required Skills:
Ability to engage effectively within a broad programme team comprising both customer, supplier and Leidos staff
Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of technical, business, finance and personnel management techniques
Good interpersonal skills and judgement for dealing with both internal and external stakeholders to develop strong working relations to support achieving objectives
Ability to work autonomously, prioritising tasks and activities as business and customer needs change
The ability to communicate, negotiate and influence effectively at all levels
Ability to motivate and develop staff
Desirable Skills:
Air Traffic Management knowledge would be advantageous
Experience of SOA/ITIL/Service Management methodologies
