Description

Job Description:

Leidos is seeking an Accounting Technician to work in support of the Department of Justice in Washington, DC. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced and diverse environment and will have a management team that encourages your career development and growth. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Division and the Constitutional & Specialized Tort Litigation Section (CSTL) to achieve their mission.

Be part of a dynamic team in providing legal and technical services to support the Department of Justice. From emails and instant messages, to electronic devices, and social media systems, we are equipped to meet the challenge of forensically capturing, reviewing, and illuminating the “smoking gun” evidence. Join us and make a difference! In this role, you will gain many intangible skills, such as time and task management, critical thinking and problem solving, the ability to communicate complicated problems in a concise manner, as well as solve complex problems using available tools.

Leidos is seeking a financial candidate to manage the financial aspects of the Civil Division’s domestic private counsel retention program. CSTL is responsible for providing representation to federal employees sued personally for job related acts. CSTL litigates most of those cases directly or assist the U.S. Attorney's Offices in doing so. However, at times ethical constraints place limitations upon who we can represent which then necessitates the need to go to private counsel at DOJ expense. CSTL closely monitors these cases and administers the private counsel program (which has a yearly budget of around $10M). CSTL is currently managing, through private counsel, the representation of around 275 federal employees—and current indications are that the number will continue to grow. The position entails handling many financial duties associated with the program and interacting with OPBE. The selected candidate is also responsible for processing CSTL litigation expenses, expert witness accounts, time and attendance, and other assorted duties in support of litigation. Among other financial and litigation support responsibilities that are assigned, the successful candidate will be required to:

  • manage the $10-$15 million DOJ Civil Division Private Counsel program

  • reconcile discrepancies between various account entries and balance accounts

  • receive, review, and process invoices from law firms for accuracy and completeness monthly

  • interact with staff attorneys and law firms when billing questions arise

  • ensure compliance with the private counsel payment guidelines set forth in Civil Division Directive 2120B

Basic Qualifications:

  • Two-year degree in accounting or four-year degree in a related field (finance, business, banking, or economics) with 30 credit hours in accounting.  With the COR’s approval, relevant financial and accounting experience performing technical level duties in accounting, banking, or finance for corporations or non-profit organizations may be substituted for the education and credit requirements.

  • Experience in banks and banking

  • Knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems used by banking, financial and other institutions

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior federal government experience is valued

  • Active security clearance, preferred.

  • Experience with the following: Account Management; Program Management; Government Travel; Customer Service; Conflict Resolution; Invoice Processing; Confidentiality; Analytical Skills; Budget Preparation; Document Management; Written/Oral Communication; Administrative Skills; Account Payables/Receivables

This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum wage requirements as well as the minimum Health and Welfare benefit. Leidos will ensure that all provisions are met through their wages and benefits. The pay for this position will be $35/hr.
