Leidos, Inc is seeking an R&D Engineering Technician to join our team! The Engineering Technician will be a key part of the Leidos team supporting connected vehicle research. This important work is at the Saxton Transportation and Operations Laboratory (STOL), the USDOT’s premiere research and development laboratory for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology at the FHWA Turner Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, VA. The successful candidate will be part of a larger research team that advances connected and automated vehicle technologies for the FHWA via developing, testing, and demonstrating new capabilities associated with vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication.
Primary Responsibilities
The R&D Engineering Technician will assist in the development of technology for connected and automated vehicles and advanced transportation research testbeds. Work assignments may include performing engineering tasks at the systems level on commercial-off-the-shelf hardware and software required for traffic signals control, traffic management systems, and vehicle guidance systems.
Other duties include:
Design, specify, and integrate hardware to meet research needs
Manufacture, install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical components
Design and fabricate solutions that meet the needs of varying projects with low to high complexity
Interface with project managers and other users of the laboratory
Conduct various phases of research projects across the breadth of transportation science.
Support the operations and maintenance of the lab facility, equipment, and associated testbeds.
Interface with Government technical and business personnel.
Basic Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering, electrical engineering, or similar discipline
1+ year(s) related experience (internships included)
Ability to test and troubleshoot complex power and communication systems
Must communicate clearly in English
Must be able to give, receive, and apply constructive feedback
Must be prompt, schedule-conscious, and focused
Must be willing to continue professional and personal development
Must have unexpired US driver’s license and be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in traffic signal controller operations and configuration
Familiarity with vehicle power and/or communication systems
Geospatial positioning (e.g., GPS) and position correction (e.g., RTCM)
Wireless communications, particularly DSRC, cellular, or Wi-Fi
Connected vehicle or transportation communication standards (e.g., SAE J2735, NTCIP 1202, etc.)
Special consideration will be given to candidates with volunteering experience and ongoing community involvement, as well as academic and professional recognitions. Work will be conducted on-site.
Pay Range:
Pay Range $50,700.00 - $78,000.00 - $105,300.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
