More About the Role:
Leidos currently has an opening on the ‘Service Management, Integration and Transport’ (SMIT) Contract for a Communications Network Engineer - Project Implementation position. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the SMIT mission.  SMIT is the largest IT services program for the Navy. Under SMIT, the Leidos team will deliver the core backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet, including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport. Ultimately, Leidos will support the Navy in unifying its shore-based networks and data management to improve capability and service while also saving significant dollars by focusing efforts under one enterprise network. The Position involves extensive knowledge of network communications, architecture, security controls and configuration.

Candidates for this position are highly motivated and have working knowledge of network operations, fault diagnosis, repair, installation, configuration, cabling, passive infrastructure, troubleshooting, project execution as well as the ability to follow detailed policies and procedures. This includes a solid understanding of network architectures and engineering solutions. The ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented, fast-paced and mission-focused environment is a must.

What You'll Get to Do:
•Provide Network Subject Matter Expertise (SME) and thought leadership for the largest Intranet in the world.  A qualified candidate for this position would be responsible for network integration, test, security, and project execution support to the Project Teams when manned sites are identified as resource constrained. Project execution support could include conducting site surveys, identifying required hardware and cabling, scheduling service interruptions, staging equipment and baseline configurations, customizing Solution Engineering Implementation Plans (EIP) to align with site specific requirements, leading maintenance activities to deploy complex solutions and completing post maintenance activities.
•Position will require extensive knowledge of complex BAN/LAN/WAN solutions being fielded under SMIT to modernize the network and the ability to adapt and configure enterprise solutions based on mission requirements. Responsible for planning and identifying needed changes in configuration as well as responsible for implementing the configurations.
•Works as a Project-focused Engineer on a team responsible for providing solution expertise on various BAN/LAN/WAN new project implementations to include the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, cabling, and integration of current and future SMIT network architectures.

Responsibilities will include design, O&M and troubleshooting. 
-Orchestrates and directs network upgrades and maintenance activities with internal and external stakeholders.
-Mentors on-site Base Engineers during deployments to eliminate gaps related to future project execution.
-Provide detailed solutioning improvements to the Base Network Engineer Instructor team on any/all identified gaps in processes and/or procedures to facilitate enhanced and new content for Knowledge Management. 
-Initiates software upgrades and changes to the SMIT system and communications infrastructure as prescribed by Domain Architects, Design and Configuration Teams.
-Documents work activities/details per established tools and processes; maintains accurate site documentation.
-Supports the Network Operations Center (NOC) as required in support of incident troubleshooting and restoral.
-Supports network configuration/asset management activities, manages configuration drift, and accurately creates or modifies network documentation to reflect the as-is and/or to-be environment.
-Supports Cybersecurity requirements and implementation of security controls (STIG compliance).

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
•Requires B.S. Degree and 8-12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 10 years of prior relevant experience (Degree in relevant field preferred with 10+ years of overall related experience).
 -Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree (4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree at the hiring Manager’s discretion).
•8+ years’ SMIT/NMCI program support as a Base Network Engineer.
•Ability to travel up to 80-90%, by car or air including possible OCONUS travel.
•Must currently possess an active Secret clearance.
•Must have current IAT Level II Certification: (i.e. Comp TIA Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate-Security etc…).
•Must have current Network Vendor Associate Level Certification is required (i.e. Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA, etc…).
•Ability to be scheduled to work, or be called in to work during off hours and weekends to meet customer mission support requirements.
•10+ years’ experience engineering and troubleshooting networks, including extensive routing and switching experience such as MPLS, VPNs, routing protocols i.e. BGP, OSPF, switching protocols i.e. Spanning Tree Protocol, VLANs, LLDP, VoIP, Multicast protocols and emerging network technologies.
•10+ years’ experience configuring switches, routers, network appliances, WAN acceleration devices.
•Experience with multiple vendor routing, switching firewall and wireless product lines.
•Strong understanding and in-depth knowledge of TCP/IP network/subnet addressing.
•Ability to work independently or in a team environment to resolve technical issues in a dynamic environment.
•Customer service experience.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
•Top Secret Security Clearance.
•MPLS experience.
•DevOps, CI/CD experience.
•Scripting experience (i.e. Python, etc…).
•Automation experience (i.e. Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc…).
•SDN/SD WAN experience.
•Professional or Expert level vendor certifications.
•ITIL certifications.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,900.00 - $126,000.00 - $170,100.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
