The Defense Group has a dynamic job opening for a Network Engineer in Hawaii. All work will be performed onsite at the SSO Facility in Pearl Harbor, HI. In this role, you will provide network administration and technical support for the Hopper’s customer base in Hawaii and Guam.
This is a great opportunity as you’ll be living & working in the beautiful state of Hawaii, and be a part of a forward based maintenance division that is subordinate to the Hopper Operations Department in Suitland, MD and is chartered to provide anywhere from tier 1 to tier 3 support as the situation dictates. The Network Operations Division (ISC-N31) is responsible for providing network administration and engineering related support for elements within the National Maritime Intelligence Center (NMIC) and locations around the world. This ranges from providing simple patching actions between network components to configuring hardware and security solutions to performing network administration functions.
What Will You Do
•As the resident network subject matter expert, you’ll respond to network issues, and provide hands-on training for military technicians in order to provide a robust and responsive maintenance cell.
•Familiarization of all supported networks in Hawaii and Guam.
•Verify all multiple network systems are being monitored and are in compliance with the latest governance and best practices.
•Coordinate with internal and external teams, stakeholders and sometimes vendors regarding design, process and/or approaches to ensuring all network systems are up-to-date, working efficiently and ensure all mission requirements are met.
•Utilize your expertise to validate, provide documentation, configurations and diagrams; and employ technical solutions, principles and concepts to perform any physical and/or software (CISCO IOS) patching as required.
•Coordinate any service interruptions with the affected customer base and make reports
•Perform configuration of network devices IAW DIA, to industry best practices, and standards.
•Provide Tier 2/3 support with some tier 1 patching and end node support (troubleshooting connectivity to VoIPs/VTCs/Desktops/Printers/Etc.).
•Act as the resident network subject matter expert, respond to network issues, and provide hands-on training for military technicians in order to provide a robust and responsive maintenance cell.
•Provide fault isolation on all aspects of these networks which includes routers, switches, media converters, cryptographic devices, physical cables, and telecommunication paths.
•Provide network administration and technical support for the Hopper’s customer base in Hawaii and Guam.
•Obtain, vet, design, and implement any new customer requirements in accordance with established Hopper processes.
•Review Information Assurances Vulnerability Alerts/Bulletins (IAVA/B) related to CISCO products and develop and implement remediation plans.
•Develop technical refresh plans for the networks in Hawaii and Guam as required.
•Provide cost estimates and implementation plans to Hopper Lead Government WAN Engineers for review, approval, and acquisition.
•Recommend changes to the government for improvement in the operating and/or security environment for government consideration and approval.
•Develop and provide Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for routine and non-routine procedures that assist both local military technicians and supported customers in operation and management of the networks.
Your Areas of Knowledge & Expertise (job qualifications)
•A Bachelor's degree with 8 or more years’ experience in network administration, telecommunications, and cryptographic technologies. Additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
•Hands on experience in configuring and fault isolation of CISCO devices using: EIGRP, BGP, SNMP, TCP/IP, OSPF, Spanning Tree, ARP, dot1Q, VLANs, VPN, GRE, IPSEC, subnetting, NAT, access control lists, and various other routing and networking protocols.
•Proficient with various IP and serial encryption technologies and devices.
•Proficient in telecommunications technologies and devices such as modems, CSU/DSU, signal extenders, muxes, optical transport and circuitry (T1, DS3, OC-n, metro Ethernet).
Required Certifications
•CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
•Security+ certification.
Clearance Requirement
•A DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance required to start
Travel
•Up to 10% travel may be required (travel to remote locations in order to maintain network systems and occasionally troubleshoot complex technical issue in the Pacific Theater of operations)
HOPPER
Pay Range:
Pay Range $84,500.00 - $130,000.00 - $175,500.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
