Leidos has an opening for a Senior System Administrator located at Fort Detrick, MD, working with the Enterprise Information Technology Project Management Office (eIT PMO).  The eIT PMO supports medical research IT solutions to USAMRDC with the mission to facilitate full coordination, planning, management, and execution of the project to ensure successful acquisition and sustainment of the require IT solution.  The eIT PMO’s vision is to be the premier DoD provider of medical research enterprise IT solutions.

The Senior System Administrator will perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting on all hardware and software involved with or in support of eIT PMO.  You will work with the project’s Information Assurance (IA) Engineer, Product Leads, and Management to prioritize and execute system administration tasks following eIT PMO processes.

What you will do:

  • Install, configure, and evaluation of COTS software as part of analysis of alternatives/software selection, and potentially as the formal implementation of the selected software package.

  • Document the repeatable steps of system implementation and/or administration tasks in work instructions and document the configurations in the appropriate baseline documentation.

  • Responsible for system backup and recovery planning and implementation.

  • Develop schedules and plans for implementation of system upgrades.  Evaluate the roadmap of the project and coordinate and prioritize the technical implementations accordingly.

  • Administer systems/environment solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules and interface with vendors for solution of trouble calls.

  • Responsible for Operating system security support such as routinely executing security patches to be compliant with cybersecurity controls, and resolve or document vulnerability findings.

  • Interact with peers daily and during internal Engineering Review Board meetings.  Requires frequent interaction with customers and/or function peer group leads and managers.

  • Perform Logs-review via Log Management software such as Splunk for purposes of system health review as well as troubleshooting issues.

  • Execute system migration (or rebuild) from on premise environment to a cloud environment.

  • Evaluate and mitigate cybersecurity vulnerabilities in databases, web servers, operating systems, and supporting technologies.

  • Participating in and following the change management process (change requests/change proposals/test plans and reports) for all changes to systems and baselines.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related technical discipline and 4-8 years of database and operating systems experience or equivalent.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of basic computer hardware and software fundamentals.

  • Skills in the following required:

    • Troubleshooting hardware/software

    • Installing and configuring Operating systems

    • Installing and configuring web-based applications

  • Experience working in environments with strict cybersecurity requirements (DoD experience preferred)

  • Experience working with VMware virtual servers.

  • Expert with MS SQL Server administration and security.

  • Familiarity with Oracle database administration.

  • Certifications required:

    • CompTIA Security+

    • Oracle (OCP) or MS SQL Server or Windows OS

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with these Operating Systems: Windows, Linux, ESXi

  • Experience managing SAN, installing and managing Symantec Backup Exec 2012 or higher, managing IT systems with McAfee HBSS and HIPS deployed, managing HP c7000 blade enclosures with Onboard Administrator and Virtual Connect, configuring and managing log management software, and configuring/managing/implementing VRanger software, managing and using VMware virtualization products.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 - $135,000.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
