We are in search of a Geomicrobiologist to support research at the National Energy Technology Laboratory at its Pittsburgh, PA site. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary scientific, and technically oriented national laboratory team that produces technological solutions for America’s energy challenges. Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform DNA extraction, PCR amplification, quantitative PCR, and DNA sequencing on environmental samples.
- Perform basic anaerobic culturing of mixed microbial communities.
- Assist with planning sampling events for various energy systems.
- Assist in laboratory inventory of DNA analysis materials and reagents.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary group of science researchers to accomplish project tasks.
- Communicate progress and method development with Principal investigator.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a background in biology, biochemistry, or microbiology with 2+ years experience
- Applicants should have basic knowledge of working with mixed microbial communities of environmental samples.
- Laboratory experience completing DNA extraction, qPCR, and PCR amplification.
- Must be able to meet the requirements for gaining access to work on the NETL campus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in or coursework related to environmental studies.
- Knowledge of DNA analysis programs, such as CLC Genomics.
- Experience with DNA sequencing.
- Previous experience working with various scientists to complete DNA analyses laboratory work.
- Previous experience completing basic lab manager tasks such as ordering supplies and materials, equipment maintenance, and equipment calibration.

Program Specific Salary Range: $75K to $85K (depending on experience)
Pay Range:
Pay Range $60,450.00 - $93,000.00 - $125,550.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
