We are in search of a Lead Systems Engineer to join our Mission Partner Environment Services (MPE-S) program to provide on-site support at Fort Meade, MD. As the Senior System Engineer, you will serve as Technical Lead responsible for supporting the day-to-day systems engineering support, server virtualization services, along with planning, implementing, and continuously improving physical/virtual infrastructure technologies.

What You'll Be Doing:

You will support multiple technologies in the enterprise and works cross-functionally with the Networking, Storage, Configuration Management, Cloud Architecture, and the Project Management teams. You will solve problems of diverse scope where analysis of situations requires evaluation and judgment; evaluate current systems; assist in designing solutions for our government client, and at times, provide informal supervision, leadership and training to less experienced technicians. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day support of server, app, or desktop virtualization 

  • Participating in disaster recovery tests and planning 

  • Partnering with cross-functional peers to make informed strategic/big-picture decisions 

  • Support operations of multi-site (geographically)  

  • Provide break/fix support to virtualized infrastructure across the enterprise 

  • Architecting system logs and analyzing through tools including SolarWinds SEM and VMware Log Insight 

  • Performing routine audits of systems and software 

  • Work with Network Team to plan, install and configure new hardware and software for enterprise solutions 

  • Answering technical queries from other IT support teams (Systems, Networking, Architecture) 

  • Responsible for documenting the configuration of the current and future infrastructures 

  • Responding and resolving service outages and interruptions; Troubleshooting any reported problems; Multi-site System performance tuning 

  • Contributes to the design of enterprise server systems including but not limited to technical architecture, stability, and platforms 

  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation diagrams of the enterprise server infrastructure, data flows and routing topologies 

  • Perform pro-active support functions and reporting to maintain the integrity of the enterprise virtual environment and business function 

  • Communicates accurate and useful status reports to management on a timely basis 

  • Prepares contingencies, scenarios, scenario plans and action items to resolve issues 

  • Maintains awareness of new technological developments in industry and processes- presents new concepts appropriately and champion successful implementation 

  • Key contributor in the research, planning and implementation of server virtualization projects in accordance with and support of business needs goals and objectives 

  • Where appropriate, provides on-going training and technical direction to other team members pertaining to virtualization optimization, systems integration, system upgrades, system configuration, and troubleshooting 

  • Interacts with vendors in the resolution of complex problems 

  • Effectively communicates with customers, help desk support personnel and senior technicians 

  • Presents new technology and high-level resolutions to management 

  • Facilitates training sessions for peers on new technology solutions, optimizations, upgrades, trouble-shooting techniques and administration tools 

  • Forecasts and recommends infrastructure and system application improvements 

  • Works with ticket queue to track support issues 

  • Available to provide after-hours/on-call support 

  • Willing and available up to travel 25% during times of implementation 

  • Other duties as assigned 


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Network Engineering, Math).  Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 

  • Twelve years direct experience, in the last fifteen years supporting IT projects and initiatives as a systems engineer or technical manager.  

  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification 

  • Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret w/SSBI clearance is required with the ability to obtain TS/SCI Eligibility 

  • Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required 


Preferred Qualifications

  • PowerShell scripting experience 

  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper and/or Palo Alto firewalls (Virtual or Physical) is a big plus 

  • Strong understanding of the technology as well as hands on experience deploying VMware NSX 

  • Must have demonstrated experience with the forecasting, planning, and resourcing technical projects 

  • Strong experience with Enterprise level VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure implementation and development 

  • Extensive knowledge of Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Scientific Linux) and be able to build, configure, and maintain via Command Line Interface (CLI) 

  • Excellent understanding of open-source frameworks, with experience deploying various open-source packages and/or application stacks into sponsor's production landscape 

  • Understanding of information security practices (cryptography, privilege separation, RBAC, INFOSEC, Auditing, patching, Security Benchmark Compliance, OS hardening, etc) 

  • Experience in the implementation of cross domain solutions 

  • At least 1 year supporting MPE / MNIS network infrastructure and service deployments 

  • Experience in implementation of CENTRIXS networks and supporting infrastructure 

  • Understanding of configuration management systems (e.g. Puppet, Chef, vCM) and concepts behind mass configuration 

  • ITIL Foundations Certification  

  • VCAP6-DCV, VPC6.5-DCV, VCAP6-DCV, VCAP6.5-DCV, or VCP-DVC 2020

Pay Range:

Pay Range $113,100.00 - $174,000.00 - $234,900.00
