The Leidos Software Factory has an opportunity for a Senior Product Owner to come work in our state of the art facility within the Leidos Software Factory. The Senior Product Owner will support and guide the definition, implementation, and delivery of programs focused on modernizing a variety of software systems. The selected candidate will leverage their skills to provide oversight, guidance, management support, and other related duties in one or more phases of software systems development, system integration, or system sustainment. Further, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with an outstanding software engineering team and will support the team’s software deployed in the cloud. Our engineers are at the forefront of defining and building solutions to address challenges faced by our end users, applying a go-fast agile approach driven by small teams that rely on and value the contributions of each team member.

This position may be remote and located anywhere in VA/DC Metro. Regular travel to our office in Charlottesville, VA for onsite customer meetings/work. 

Primary Responsibilities

The Senior Product Owner is accountable for managing the product backlog for software projects and, in that capacity must perform the following activities:

  • Translate often confusing or incomplete requirements into a clear, concise, and consolidated product backlog.

  • Clearly define and prioritize product backlog items, including establishing acceptance criteria in close collaboration with external and internal project stakeholders.

  • Ensure the product backlog is visible and transparent so stakeholders can easily understand what the project team is developing now and will develop in the future.

  • Work directly with government customers to set clear expectations, understand their needs and priorities, and ensure consistent communication between Leidos and the Program Office.

  • Communicate with the development team(s) to ensure a consistent and unambiguous understanding of all items in the product backlog so that implementation meets the intent of each requirement.

  • Assist in system architecting, trade-off analyses, development of detailed design artifacts, defining the project’s test and delivery strategy, and supporting the project manager.

  • Draft and maintain the necessary engineering plans, processes, and procedures to communicate engineering processes with internal and external program stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Management, or relevant field.

  • At least eight (8) years of professional experience performing systems engineering or software engineering duties.

  • At least five (5) years of professional experience leading technical teams, a portion of which includes leading Agile software teams.

  • Expertise with Agile software management and continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.

  • Expertise with system requirements management, including requirements gathering and decomposition.

  • Comfortable briefing Engineering and Architectural concepts to non-technical leadership.

  • Expertise with high-level software system design and development of design artifacts.

  • Excellent problem solving and analysis skills, including the ability to logically create structure and order from unstructured inputs.

  • Self-starter that is able to work independently while possessing the communication skills to work collaboratively with software development teams and external customers.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Active TS/SCI U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Management, or similar field.

  • Proficiency with Agile software management tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.

  • Active U.S. DoD security clearance.

  • 1-2 Years Identity Intelligence experience, Biometrics a plus.

  • Experience working with JBOSS

  • Experience working with SOAP/REST services

  • Experience in SQL and NoSQL backends

Pay Range:

Pay Range $97,500.00 - $150,000.00 - $202,500.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
