The Mainframe Storage Engineer must be a motivated self-starter having strong systems, software, and mainframe virtual storage experience to support a complex geographically dispersed virtual tape storage capacity exceeding 47PB’s across three data centers. SSA employs enterprise class Direct Access Storage Device (DASD) and Virtual Tape subsystems to house agency business data.

Foundation for Success (Basic Qualifications):
This experience is the foundation a candidate needs to be successful in this position:
- Bachelors and 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 years of prior relevant experience.
- 7 years of experience or more as a Mainframe Storage Engineer.
- 5 years of experience with Oracle VSMc (VSM console), VSM, VLE and ZFS Virtual tape Libraries
- 4 years of experience with IBM Job Control Language (JCL).
- 4 years of experience with CA-1 Tape Management System (TMS) and CA Vantage.
- 3 years of experience designing and building Storage Management System (SMS).
- 2 years of experience using DataDomain Management Center (DDMC).
- Expertise in the Linux command-line environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Demonstrated experience growing, maintaining, problem monitoring and engineer problem resolutions on virtual tape architectures.
- Demonstrated experience designing, installing, configuring, provisioning, and deploying storage hardware used in a multi-node storage architecture.
- Experience developing best practice project plans, engineering scripts, and documentation needed to migrate workloads to virtual tape.
- Prior Federal government experience

- Managing and supporting the Agency’s Tape Management System, Virtual Tape Control System, and Data Storage resources.
- Providing support for disaster recovery exercises through their vaulting operations, and tape and encryption processes.
- Monitoring storage environment to ensure that storage workloads are performing as designed and planned.
- This includes managing and documenting the Storage Resource Management (SRM), Storage Performance Management, Control Software and error reporting software.
- Design, build/re-engineer, test, deploy, and document both Storage Management System (SMS) and non-SMS system storage space for each sysplex.
- Assist with DDMC and UniSphere deployment enhancements and exploration.
- Analyze the operating posture of the existing storage hardware and software.
- Use of IBM’s Job Control Language (JCL), IBM’s dataset utilities, IBM’s Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF), and IBM’s Access Method Services (IDCAMS) tools to manage datasets.
- Work with advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts.
- Challenge with working on complex technical problems and providing innovative solutions.

The selected candidate will be part of the team that provides support to the Agency’s Tape Management System, Virtual Tape Control System, and Data Storage resources for SSA’s production and test environments. The highly complex and demanding workload, ensuring data availability 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, requires intense, continuous support from SSA’s storage management component.
Candidate must be willing to work on-site in the Lakewood, CO office if the customer requests this, otherwise for now they can work remotely. The remote schedule is: Regular Shift – Mon thru Friday – time within 6am-6pm – East Coast time. They can determine their actual schedule with the customer once they onboard.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $97,500.00 - $150,000.00 - $202,500.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
