Description

Job Description:

The NISC Program is seeking a qualified professional to meet our FAA ASR-9 program office (AJM-414) customer’s requirement for an ASR-9 field engineer to join the program office’s implementation and engineering teams.  Specifically, the selected candidate will be responsible for the installation of SSM-ASR9-058, Data Communications Equipment (DCE) Modernization Installation, at the nation’s busiest and most important airports. Installation of the DCE modification is currently scheduled to begin in late calendar year 2023 and is scheduled to be completed at more than 140 critical NAS facilities by July 2025.  We anticipate that the selected candidate would install the DCE modification at about 40 facilities across the NAS during this period as part of a small select team.  Travel during this period is expected to be about 90 percent.Prior to the beginning of the DCE modification, the selected candidate will serve as an ASR-9 subject-matter expert to the ASR-9 program office project, implementation, and engineering leads and participate in final planning and site preparation activities, including the generation of site impl mentation plans.  This may include several visits to ASR-9 facilities.  Travel during this period is expected to be between 10 and 20 percent for this purpose.

The selected candidate will also perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the program office’s ASR-9 engineering asset located at the William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ.  This ASR-9 is primarily used by ASR-9 second-level engineering (AJW-1454) and the selected candidate will ensure that the system remains available to engineering to meet program office objectives.  Travel during this period is expected to be between 10 and 20 percent for this purpose.

Primary Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for this position is a prior senior FAA ASR-9 radar specialist (engineer, technician-in-depth, or senior technician) with several years of responsibility for one or more ASR-9 radar systems in the operational NAS.

The ideal candidate for this position would have the following experience and qualifications:

1.  Completion of formal training on the ASR-9 at the FAA Academy

2.  Prior certification authority on the ASR-9 at one or more airports

3.  Several years of field (hands-on) experience on one or more ASR-9s in the active NAS

4.  A comprehensive understanding of current FAA operational risk management practices and their critical role in protecting the NAS

5.  The ability to perform at a high level, both independently and as part of a small team, to meet an aggressive modification installation schedule

6.  A proven commitment to high quality maintenance practices during other ASR-9 system modifications and major repair activities

7.  A commitment to professionalism when representing Leidos to our FAA customer, in keeping with our commitment to provide our customer with the ‘best of the best’ professionals in the NAS

The ASR-9 is the nation’s flagship terminal radar system and operates at the busiest and most important airports in the United States.  As a critical life-safety radar in the NAS, the standards for its operation and maintenance are necessarily very high.

While not every requirement listed above is essential (for instance, an OESG engineering who is otherwise very well qualified would not have needed ASR-9 certification authority in their position), the nature of the customer’s requirement requires a seasoned ASR-9 professional capable of performing independently at a high level on the date of hire.  Therefore, experience on other radar systems cannot be considered in lieu of specific ASR-9 experience for this requirement.

Basic Qualifications

1. Experience with research, design, and development of electrical equipment and systems.

2. Typically requires BS degree and 8 – 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 – 10 years of prior relevant experience.

IMPACT: Works to achieve key project/program objectives and deliverables. Responsible for entire projects or processes spanning multiple technical areas. Manages large projects or processes with moderate impact on the achievement of sub-family results.

COMPLEXITY: Develops solutions to complex technical issues and problems that impact multiple area or disciplines. Regularly employs ingenuity and creativity to develop new technical solutions and systems in order to achieve functional objectives.

COMMUNICATION: Communicates with internal team members across multiple areas and client team members. May communicate with parties external to the organization (e.g., sub-contractors, vendors, etc.). Works to influence project/team leaders regarding solution design, process and/or approaches.

LEADERSHIP & TALENT MANAGEMENT: KNOWLEDGE: Requires expert knowledge of and ability to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 - $162,000.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
