Job Description:
Leidos’ NISC IV Program (National Airspace System Integration Support Contract) is one of the largest and oldest programs supporting the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), and we have an exciting career opportunity for an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Technical Writer.
The UAS Technical Writer will be responsible to preparing technical briefings and will work with a cross functional team focused on evaluating and testing Counter-UAS (C-UAS) systems. The position is responsible for creating, editing, and organizing safety and technical information and converting it into useful, high-quality documentation and presentations. This position is focused on writing narratives that capture program progress.
UAS Technical Writer responsibilities will include creating original content, copy editing, ensuring that content meets FAA style requirements, and supplying illustrative graphics. Primary areas of contribution include, but are not limited to:
Program Final report
ARC information papers
Flight Test Reporting
Hazard documentation
Safety Risk Management (SRM) – Panel reporting
A successful candidate will be familiar with common aviation terms and definitions. Knowledge of small UAS systems is desirable.
The position requires the ability to develop and use standardized reporting formats that can be applied to summarize repetitive events and the ability to extract numerical information from excel data sheets and accurately summarize in written form is required.
The candidate should be highly organized, adjust well to a fast paced and dynamic environment, and have excellent verbal and problem-solving skills. The position will require the technical writer to learn processes and content guidelines. It requires excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with SMEs and team members. The candidate must have superior writing skills and experience within a research and development environment.
UAS Technical Writer Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 8-12 years of prior relevant Communications experience or Master’s degree with 6 10 years of prior relevant experience
Experience writing final reports relating to aviation that summarize testing activities, explain key concepts, and provide an overall picture of accomplishments
Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
US citizenship required, dual citizens are not eligible
UAS Technical Writer Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with writing for the FAA or other equivalent aviation safety organization
Experience reviewing and creating communications to be distributed to stakeholders
Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

Pay Range:
Pay Range $75,400.00 - $116,000.00 - $156,600.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
