Summary responsibilities:
The SES UK Aviation GL Accountant has responsibility for a range of general ledger related activities for the SD&A UK Ltd entity, covering month end close, balance sheet control, VAT return support, audit support and compliance and control activities.
The role is a key member of the SES controller team and reports into the SES UK controller. The role works closely other members of the Leidos UK accounting function and the Aviation programme finance team and will be expected to build a solid understanding of the Aviation business in order to provide meaningful trial balance analysis and ensure accuracy and control of the Aviation financials.
The role is designated as a home-worker, but it is expected that there will be regular travel to the Bedford site in order to interact with the wider business.
Key responsibilities:
Month-end close activities
Responsibility for the accurate and timely delivery of the Aviation month-end close, working closely with the Aviation programme finance team and SES controller team to drive the close timetable activities
Prepare and post accruals, prepayments and adjustments for the SD&A UK Ltd entity
Review and sense-check the validity of the indirect (non-project specific) costs recorded for the period, including discussion with the wider business and cost centre managers
Direct responsibility for preparation of key balance sheet reconciliations, and general review and monitoring of the Aviation trial balance
Prepare meaningful analysis and present monthly trial balance to the Head of Finance for Aviation UK
Support the Intercompany accountant and Accounting Operations Lead to reconcile the product related intercompany month-end position
VAT return support
Generate base reports to feed into the VAT returns for SD&A UK Ltd (core AR, AP and other related transaction reports)
Prepare the base Ireland and Netherlands VAT returns for review by the Tax Manager and EMEA controller
Review VAT returns with Tax Manager
Support the audit and stat accounts process for SD&A UK Ltd
Potential to have involvement in inventory and revenue activities for Aviation business
Ad Hoc projects related to process improvement, system developments, compliance and control
