About the Antarctic Support Contract:
Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF’s Office of Polar Program’s Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:
Vision: Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.
Mission: To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.
Leidos ASC provides science and logistics support for approximately 150 science and technical events across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research across multiple science disciplines. The planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica is a critical part of our mission.
The Field Area Manager (FAM) will join an exciting team at ASC as the leader of the Field Area and Chair of the Field Performance Management team. They are responsible for all operations in the field for both near and deep field activity across Antarctica. They will report to the Science and Area Management Director and will be part of the Leadership team.
Primary Responsibility:
Responsible for overseeing field operations from planning through execution for the following major activities: fixed wing aircraft, rotary aircraft, camps supported from research vessels, field traverses, sea ice operations to support scientific and operational needs.
Ensures and supports a safe workplace for all personnel in the field.
Ensures and supports a harassment free work place for all personnel in the field.
Providing support to all Scientific Events and Projects in the field to ensure requirements and schedules are meet and provides mitigation and conflict resolution when needed.
Leads the team integrating the support from several non ASC contract including the NYANG, KBA, ACHI to support field operations.
Sets long term vision and technical guidance to USAP for Field Operations.
Maintaining a cost efficient field program maintaining of ASC and NON ASC assets with an annual value over $20MM.
Control Account Manager (CAM) for all field area activities, and ensures efficient use of non-ASC assets including but not limited to LC-130, fixed and rotary wing aircraft and other international assets.
Oversees Aviation Operations Manager, Field Operations Manager, Field Risk Manager.
Chair of the Field Area Performance Management Team.
Ensuring Field Area is properly staffed, hiring and recruitment of staff .
Implements and enforces ASC’s safety, environmental and health programs, performance assurance and other program initiatives.
Point of contact for all operations to happen in the field.
Ensures that all activities follow the Antarctic Treaty, Health and Safety procedures, and all other applicable company and NSF procedures and policies.
Monitors and reports on progress on all field activates.
Ensures integration and coordination of all functional areas in to field operations.
Handles confidential matters in accordance with management policy.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Minimum 10 years supporting or managing remote field operations.
Must be a US Citizen or green card holder to meet contractual requirements.
Strong analytical skills.
Leadership experience.
Strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Excellent written and oral skills.
Ability to execute in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Detailed oriented.
Strong Microsoft Office suite skills.
Understanding of remote field operations including fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
Preferred Qualifications:
Antarctic, Arctic or remote cold region field safety experience is preferred.
Incident Command System (ICS) certified.
Incident Management (NIMS) certified.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
Must be a US Citizen or have permanent residency.
Pay Range:
Pay Range $118,300.00 - $182,000.00 - $245,700.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
