The Defense Group at Leidos currently has an opening for an experienced and motivated Modeling and Engineer to work in our Reston, VA office in a hybrid model to serve as a technical lead on large, complex projects.  This is an exciting opportunity to use your engineering experience, along with your keen interest, talent, and passion in a secure network DevOps task. Our goal is to automate network engineering functions in support of the development of innovative solutions in a research and development setting for Defense mission solutions for multi-domain operations (Air, Space, Land, Sea, Cyberspace). In this mission we will design and implement models, configurations and integrations of wired, wireless, satellite and terrestrial tactical communication networks that include cloud and edge technologies.  You will engage in supporting the architecture and requirements definition, and will be involved in the design, development, testing, validation and verification of the network communication models based on digital systems engineering model specifications.  Your network solutions will address requirements of operation in DDIL environments in support of network communications resiliency.

In addition to networking expertise, a successful candidate will demonstrate success in developing simulation technical solutions at the infrastructure, entity, and unit levels.  It is considered essential that a candidate demonstrate the ability to begin with top level requirements and collaborate to achieve success in defining, designing, implementing, and testing the solution needed.  This is a hands-on development position, and the candidate should expect to be involved with all aspects of simulation development in an Agile environment.   Demonstrated success in simulation theories, implementation and distributed network operation is required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the definition of network design, configuration, integration, and administration of model and simulation network patterns

  • Support the digital systems engineering effort of architecture, analysis, design, modeling and simulation with network integration requirements

  • Develop network engineering designs, and implement network configuration specifications that enable modeling and simulation use cases

  • Bring network engineering subject matter expertise into the agile development team effort, define network engineering Stories to be developed within Sprints, which align to agile development Epics

  • Work hands-on with DevSecOps engineering to define, develop and test secure network DevSecOps pipelines/workflows and playbooks that enable the configuration and deployment of network changes in an automated fashion to network nodes in the cloud and on the edge

  • Architecture and design of solutions that is expected of multi-level security (MLS) network classifications (SIPRNet, NIPRNet, JWICS, etc.)

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM-related field, and 8 years of prior relevant experience in modeling and simulation or Master's with 6+ years of prior relevant experience.

  • US Citizenship and active Secret Clearance with ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret.

  • Experience supporting and participating in Agile planning of Program Increments, Epics, Sprints, and Story boarding.

  • An aptitude to simulate networks and functions using DevSecOps techniques.

  • Ability to collaborate with other systems and software engineers through the entire product and SDLC lifecycle to develop pipelines and orchestrations of network automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance

  • Experience with LAN, WAN, MPLS, and VRF Solutions

  • Experience with SD WAN / WAN Acceleration/Optimization Solution

  • Experience with Network Access Controls (NAC) / 802.1X authentication.

  • Experience with WiFi, WiMax, wireless 4G/5G network communications and protocols

  • Experience with DNS/DHCP, IPAM, load balancers (F5), and Authentication Systems, SSL VPN.

  • Experience in researching and defining Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) for new technologies

  • Experience with VoIP, Chat, Multicast implementation and support.

  • Knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and routing protocols

Pay Range:

Pay Range $142,350.00 - $219,000.00 - $295,650.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
