Job Description:
A successful candidate will serve as a Network Engineer at NASA Johnson Space Center with a concentration on the LAN Wired/Wireless service line during an amazing period in NASA’s history. Job responsibilities will include design, engineering, installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and documentation of center network architectures in a multi-vendor, multi-protocol environment. The candidate will develop designs to meet customer requirements according to standard architectures and products. Other duties may also be assigned in support of other service lines as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
Engineer projects, identify new products and solutions, and research solutions for network architecture with LAN service line
-Act as lead engineer for ground-up design and deployment of new services based on internal and external requirements
-Design plans as well as lead initiatives for the optimization and restructuring of network architecture
-Provide solutions to complex problems on the integration of various technologies
The Principal Network Engineer will be expected to:
-Troubleshoot network systems to identify and fix performance issues
- Determine root cause and develop resolution
- Communicate with customers and management keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages
- Perform packet capture and analysis to baseline network performance and/or troubleshoot performance issues
Basic Qualifications
BS Degree in related field with at least 8 years of related experience or
High School Diploma and at least 12 years of related experience.
The candidate must have excellent oral and written skills and be able to present technical information in formal presentations to both internal and external customers. The candidate must have a concrete working knowledge of network infrastructure design, routed data protocols, switches data and hardware platforms.
Candidate must have extensive experience with Cisco campus networks.
The Principal Network Engineer must have a wide range of understanding of Switches, Routers, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Cisco VSS, Stackwise Virtual, Wireless LANs, VPN, VLANS, SNMP, VRFs.
Knowledge of and experience using Cisco Nexus switches (2K/5K/7K/9K) in NXOS and Cisco Catalyst switches including the 3K, 6K, and 9K series.
Knowledge of and experience using Cisco wireless technologies
Understanding of fiber and copper cable plant
Able to adhere to NIST standards
Ability to lift and rack network equipment in cabinets
Knowledge of data center and network closet environments including physical structure that houses network equipment, equipment grounding, electrical power for network equipment and HVAC
Knowledge in Operating Systems such as Windows, Cisco Systems, UNIX, Linux
Certifications: CCNP
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Cisco wireless controllers and WAPs
Knowledge of Riverbed Steel Central Appliances in relation with WireShark
Certifications: CCIE
Pay Range:
Pay Range $84,500.00 - $130,000.00 - $175,500.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
