Job Description:
Leidos is currently seeking a full-time Technical Writer to support the Deployment Health Research Department at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA. This position will support multiple projects that focus on the health and well-being of military service members, veterans and families within the Department. The successful candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to translate research findings into products for non-scientific audiences, including service members, military leadership, and the general population. These products will distill complex scientific information for lay audiences to help to increase the reach and policy impact of the Department’s research.
Due the COVID-19 pandemic, employees are highly encouraged to work remotely from their home office, although visits approximately twice a quarter to the Naval Health Center in San Diego may be required.
Position Responsibilities
Prepare press releases, website content, content for infographics, research policy briefs, newsletters, factsheets, and internal documents by working within an interdisciplinary research team.
Maintain thorough records of work and revisions.
Conduct scientific literature reviews to be able to communicate study findings in context.
Communicate study findings for multiple stakeholders and purposes (e.g., policy and practice).
Review content created by others for grammar, punctuation, and adherence to set style guides.
Multi-task and manage multiple ongoing projects in various development stages.
Effectively communicate with research professionals as well as high-level military leaders.
Work with the Public Affairs Officer to release products.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field or a writing-focused discipline 5-7 years’ work experience in technical writing in the areas of science and/or research.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
Utilize exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), including command of English language grammar and punctuation
Experience analyzing and summarizing complex information; experience thinking abstractly and separating complex ideas into simple elements
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Skilled at using Infographic software (e.g., Canva), Tableau, and Adobe Illustrator
Experience with infographics and other ways of visually presenting scientific information and experience with scientific journalism and other marketing methods
Proven ability scientific findings into documents for different audiences including the military and the general population

Pay Range:
Pay Range $59,150.00 - $91,000.00 - $122,850.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
