The Defense & Intelligence Group with Leidos has an opening for an Engineering Technician III supporting our NATSC contract in Newport Rhode Island. An Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently.
Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be operating the Navy Array Technical Support Center (NATSC) at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport and Naval Station Newport (NAVSTA).
The candidate must be familiar with the Towed Array Test Set (TATS) and Universal Test Harness (UTH). Follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments; technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may also be reviewed in process. The technician will need to follow detailed procedures and/or drawings to build, test, troubleshoot, repair multiple types of JTF and modify developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems, applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, electronic and electrical testing. The technician will at times work in direct support of Engineering. Technician will provide support for engineers working in such areas as testing or manufacturing through NTR’s or Action Item’s. Conducts a variety of tests using established methods. Prepares test, adjusts and operates equipment, and records test data. Work involves the ability to work from schematics, diagrams, rough sketches and verbal instructions. Good communication skills, confidence to make decisions to overcome issues, and works independently with judgment, versatility, and initiative.
Basic Qualifications
- High school/vocational school diploma or GED certificate and 1 year work related experience in electrical/electronic systems or a bachelor degree in an engineering field.
Experience performing tasks using formal work procedures. - Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD secret level clearance. Must have a minimum of a DOD Interim secret level clearance to start in this position.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Documented completion of soldering and/or fiber-optic certification/training.
Operational knowledge and experience with industrial equipment. - Active DOD secret clearance or Interim Secret clearance.
