Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) is responsible for providing eligible program participants with compensable service-connected disabilities, all services and assistance necessary to enable them to the maximum extent possible, to become employable and to obtain and maintain suitable employment and achieve maximum independence in daily living.
The VR&E team has an opportunity for an experienced cybersecurity engineer with an analytical mind capable of supporting an enterprise level system for the VBA and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Cybersecurity Engineer must be able to identify threats and vulnerabilities in systems and software, develop high-tech software to defend against hacking, malware, and insider threats. This position is presently listed as 100% remote.
Primary Responsibilities
Investigating computer and information security incidents to determine extent of compromise to information and automated information systems,
Providing computer forensic and intrusion support to high technology investigations in the form of computer evidence seizure, computer forensic analysis, data recovery, and network assessments,
Researching and maintaining proficiency in tools, techniques, countermeasures, and trends in computer network vulnerabilities, data hiding and network security and encryption.
In addition, duties may include designing, developing, or recommending integrated system solutions ensuring proprietary/confidential data and systems are protected,
Participating with the client in the strategic design process to translate security and business requirements into technical designs, and configuring and validating secure systems, testing security
Participating in the change management process
Daily administrative tasks, reporting, and communication with various departments, teams, and stakeholders
Basic Qualifications
Detailed understanding of cybersecurity methodologies and how to apply them within the VHA environment
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (computer science, engineering, etc.) and 4 – 8 years of relevant experience
Experience in developing, maintaining, and delivering a Cybersecurity Plan
Excellent researching, decision-making and organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to effectively interact with others and work independently with minimal supervision
Familiar with basic professional software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Detail oriented with strong attention to detail and accuracy
Candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance
Due to US Government contract requirements, US Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a technical discipline (computer science, engineering, etc.) and 2 – 6 years of relevant experience
Experience with the policies, procedures, and standards of the VA’s Office of Information Security (OIS)
Experience with the VA’s Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tools
Experience with developing, maintaining and delivery of the various information and privacy documentation artifacts
Experience with Agile Methodologies
Experience with Test Driven Development
Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
Pay Range:
Pay Range $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 - $162,000.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
