The Defense Group at Leidos, supporting the Medium / Overlord Unmanned Surface Vessel (M/OUSV) Program, is seeking a Junior Structural Engineer to support a dynamic high growth organization. The M/OUSV program is based in Port Hueneme, CA, and is responsible for delivering cutting edge autonomous vessel technology to the US Navy. The program operates and maintains prototype autonomous vessels for test and evaluation of the vessels as well as developing operations, maintenance, logistics and training procedures for the autonomous Fleet of the future. We are seeking resilient, innovative team-players with a reputation for excellence. This position is 100% remote with the potential of 10% travel. We are expecting award in March 2023.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform static, linear structural analysis for modifications of USV autonomous systems.
Analyze metallic and composite structures using both Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and classical hand calculation methodology.
Write and review structural test plans, test reports, and structural analysis reports.
Provide mechanical design recommendations based on structural design principles and analysis results.
Present analysis assumptions and results during internal and external design reviews.
Collaborate with Integrated Product Teams to plan and execute all technical and production functions.
Peer review analyses and drawings of other engineers.
Review and approve deviation request and non-conformance reports
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited program with 2+ years of applicable experience
2+ years of experience in engineering development and product lifecycle management
Strong engineering analytical and technical writing skills with demonstrated experience authoring technical reports and supporting design reviews.
Effective communication & interpersonal skills with ability to present data and explain results to leadership, subordinates & peers.
Ability to effectively work within a multi-functional and diverse team.
US Citizenship is required to start with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work well both independently and with a team
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Willingness to learn and improve skillsets
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, perform engineering calculations and analyze engineering data related to process controls and operations.
Experience with maritime or afloat system integration
Experience with autonomous vessels, vehicles, or aircraft
Pay Range:
Pay Range $63,050.00 - $97,000.00 - $130,950.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
