Sr. Telecommunications Design Engineer

Job Description:

The Leidos Technology and Digital Transformation Solutions Division is looking to add a full-time team member to our San Diego based utility telecom and networking team who can provide immediate impact on our backlog of design efforts.  This position supports teleworking.

Primary Responsibilities

Participate as a member of our design team for a new utility control center.  Develop design drawings in Visio or AutoCAD,  write product specifications and descriptions for transport systems, digital cross connect systems, channel banks and serial and voice circuit connections for new facility.   Develop cabling and patching – fiber and copper - details for circuit interconnections.  Support the development of bills of material for telecom systems.  Develop test and migration approaches for new systems.   Support interconnection and layout of transport connections to routed networks including Cisco routers and switches.  Design fiber interconnections between external sites and internal transport and routed network equipment.  Participate in peer reviews and customer meetings include developing and presenting technical design materials.

Basic Qualifications

BS degree and 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10 years of prior relevant experience. Candidates with 16 years experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Must be a US citizen and be able to pass a DOE security background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with SONET and packet transport systems including the Cisco ONS 15454 and GE JungleMUX platforms. Experience with iMACS 800/8000 or JungleMux T1MX or Loop Telecom channel banks.  

Experience with Sycamore Networks DNX-11 3/1/0 DCS or Loop Telecom V4150.  Experience in use of DS3 and DS1 Jackfields.  

Knowledge and experience with telecom test equipment such as oscilloscopes, line testers, BER test sets, OTDRs, protocol analyzers, Wireshark network monitor tool and level meters.
