Leidos is looking for a highly-motivated Paralegal to join us in supporting the Department of Justice at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, CA. This is an on-site position; however, a hybrid schedule is sometimes allowed at the client’s discretion. You will work as part of a dynamic team in providing legal and technical services in an exciting and diverse environment with reasonable work hours that encourage a work/life balance.  You will be supported by a management team that encourages your career development and growth. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on the local community in enforcing federal laws and the mission of the client. Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or Assistant United States Attorney to perform tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents which may include development of tables of contents and indices to briefs in accordance with established format. Lists cited cases, opinions and miscellaneous references in briefs

  • Summarizes depositions and other transcripts;

  • Maintains case files/calendars;

  • Performs legal research using online research tools such as Lexis/Nexus and/or Westlaw;

  • Provides assistance to attorneys in trial preparation by performing duties such as independently compiling trial notebooks, assembling jury instructions, and compiling witness and exhibit lists.

  • Provides a variety of direct clerical and administrative support assistance services to AUSA staff to include but not limited to: Arrange Travel, Answer Phones, Perform Docketing duties (open/update/close files).

  • Produces a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software types, e.g., tables produced by database applications and charts and graphs produced by electric spreadsheet applications, into work processing or desk top publishing text.

  • Provides automated litigation assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations. Utilizes various software applications and graphics hardware such as scanners and plotters. Prepares technical support e.g., enlarging charts and photographs, duplicating tapes and videos, and marking exhibits.

  • Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria. Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study. One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate. 

  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience is required.

  • Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.

  • Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in supporting fraud cases.

  • Trial experience very helpful.

  • Automated litigation support experience valued (i.e., Relativity).

  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under pressure will be very important.

  • Current or active security clearance preferred.

This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum wage requirements as well as the minimum Health and Welfare benefit. Leidos will ensure that all provisions are met through their wages and benefits. The pay for this position will be $24.29/hr.
