The Telecom Engineer will lead the engineering team with direct project responsibilities while maintaining an in-depth knowledgebase of the telecommunications site development process. Project work will focus on new site development of small cell sites, the modification of existing telecommunications facilities, fiber optic networks, and other project types as required. Responsibilities will focus on the accurate and efficient production of engineering deliverables, creating process procedures, and managing an effective job flow while coordinating multiple projects. Telecom Engineer duties include the quality control of project deliverables, delegation of work assignments, resource allocation and management, client communications with overall project tracking, budget models/forecasting, and the timeliness of deliverables while utilizing an understanding of client-specific telecommunications equipment and their usage. Advanced problem solving and analytics will be employed and shared with the team.
Duties will include:
Supervise, manage and perform quality analysis and quality control for team of engineers in the production of construction drawings, cost estimates, structural analysis, permitting, and other deliverables for various telecommunication projects
Oversee development of construction plans for telecommunications client equipment upgrades and modifications
Final review of production deliverables and professionally sign and/or seal reports, construction drawings, and other contract documents as needed (if licensed Professional Engineer)
Manage new and upgraded telecommunications site locations from existing infrastructure to proposed destination in public right-of-way and private property
New conduit routes for fiber optic utility companies from existing infrastructure to proposed destination in public right-of-way and private property
Existing fiber optic networks and facilities within the public for permanent or temporary relocation in the public right-of-way
Interact with internal multi-disciplinary team members to project completion
Create effective job flow by tracking assigned tasks and prioritizing completion of assignments accordingly
Maintain Leidos CAD standards and templates
Routinely produce accurate drawings promptly and efficiently
Learn new telecommunications equipment and client-specific equipment and their usage
Evaluate designs for constructability
Perform, review and approve construction drawings, structural analysis reports, and other construction contract documents with a high level of accuracy and strict attention to detail
Collaborate with internal management team to ensure efficient, effective, and innovative approach to meet the client’s needs
Provide guidance and training to team members
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Electrical/Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology and a minimum of three (3)+ years of engineering experience required, Small Cell Telecom and/or Fiber experience preferred
EIT certification
Telecommunications and/or utility experience
AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
Extensive technical experience and knowledge in civil and structural principles as well as applicable design guides and standards
Competency in reading, understanding and interpreting complex tower, structural, and construction drawings
Engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards
Ability to review and analyze site documentation and gather necessary information to complete the project
Proficiency in building codes and standards used in the telecommunications industry and their application
Ability to research and draw upon engineering knowledge to yield feasible and creative solutions using critical thinking and problem solving for complex designs
Practical knowledge of all telecommunications site development disciplines, including Design, Site Acquisition, Permitting/Easements, Construction Management, and RF
Experience in developing and reviewing project quality plans, contract documents and project specifications
Professional and applicable understanding of project management principles with proven a proven track record of budgeting, forecasting, and cost management abilities
Preferred Qualifications
PE certification
Experience with creating traffic control plans and knowledge of the MUTCD and other traffic manuals
Experience with design of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and landscaping plans
Structural analysis and design experience

Pay Range:
Pay Range $54,600.00 - $84,000.00 - $113,400.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
