Description
This Sr. Instructional Systems Designer will develop course material and provide classroom instruction for a classified customer. The position will support the organization in the design, development, review, evaluation, restructuring/redesign, and/or repackaging of training solutions. The candidate must have extensive experience with industry-standard instructional design practices, as well as data collection instruments, data collection and analysis, developing or creating project management plans, and designing learning assessments.
Primary Responsibilities:
Conduct virtual and on-site courses relevant to the area of training
Design both classroom and eLearning modules that will touch upon technical skills (e.g., software), analytic skills, and interpersonal skills for adult learners on a government site
Provide expertise in adult learning practices and methods to develop and enhance instructional curriculum for both classroom and web-based delivery
Execute all facets of the training development life-cycle for various training types, including instructor-led courses, web-based and online training, blended learning, and performance support
Conduct needs assessments and training needs analyses, including gap analysis, contextual analysis and root-cause analysis
Select and design innovative instructional and learning strategies and associated technologies to optimize learning and achieve learning objectives
Develop, execute, and test training courses and performance support products
Perform quality assurance and quality control activities, including SME reviews, design reviews, course pilots, and hot washes
Create and conduct training evaluations, both formative and summative, across all levels for maximum impact
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with training project plans and schedules
Manage and execute all aspects of training projects, including schedules, resources, and scope
Work with identified clients to determine the learning need, appropriate learning outcomes, and the most appropriate instructional methodologies based on adult learning theory
Determine the tasks, skills, level of effort, and advanced learning strategies required to meet the learning needs of the organization
Design, develop, and deliver instructional materials for instructor and student use in approved formats such as visuals, handouts, and reference guides
Demonstrated ability to develop participant-centered, applied learning solutions
Assessment expertise at multiple Kirkpatrick levels
Knowledge of the latest trends in education and how technology enables learning
Strong interpersonal and teaming skills
Completes peer to peer reviews to ensure consistency, quality, and appropriate use of course content guidelines
Ability to teach and others
Experience creating learning solutions in a fast-paced, agile environment with a focus on iteration, continuous improvement using business feedback, and lifecycle planning for learning programs
Provide consultation and recommendations to customers on innovative training solutions, as well as effective and relevant curriculum development and delivery
Work with instructors, subject matter experts, instructional technologists, and developers to analyze, design, develop, and evaluate learning solutions
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional System Design, Instructional Technology, adult education, or a related field
Must have ISD experience within the IC
Must have an understanding of the ADDIE instructional system design model
Candidate must have BS with 12+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10+ years prior relevant experience. Will consider work experience in lieu of a degree
Must have TS/SCI with a polygraph
Demonstrated experience in the following:
Identifying performance gaps or learning needs
Formally documenting instructional design plans
Using empirical data to make instructional design decisions
Ensuring instructional solutions address performance gaps
Identifying and making improvements to instruction
Designing instructional strategies that engage, motivate, or are learner-centered
Using face-to-face, online, and blended learning strategies
Developing project management plans for instructional design projects
Designing assessments of learning
Collaborating across functional teams
Prior experience as a facilitator
Facilitating small and large group training activities to achieve desired training outcomes in both resident and virtual/online classroom environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
8 or more years progressive work experience in instructional design to include training industry experience (instructor-led, online, and in blended environments)
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Creative Suite
A background in developing training materials based on policies and/or compliance requirements
Pluses: Experience with SCORM, Section 508 requirements, and technical specifications for Learning Management Systems (LMS), Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and/or Lectora
Instructional Design Certification from an accredited institution
Prior Customer experience
Experience with online learning platforms and tools
Demonstrable experience with selecting and implementing appropriate teaching methods, to include lecture/discussion, role-playing, case study reviews, simulations, and small group learning
Pay Range:
Pay Range $94,250.00 - $145,000.00 - $195,750.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
