The Leidos Defense group has a career opportunity at Scott AFB for a Voice and Data Network Engineer supporting the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN).

The successful candidate will support operational sustainment engineering and maintenance of the next generation DRSN IP voice transport network. Systems include Defense Red Switch Network voice transport IP infrastructure, and C2 communication systems. The Position requires deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of a given technical domain with a broad understanding of other related specialty areas. The position requires expertise in WAN, LAN networks and Voice over IP (VoIP) within multiple remotely managed environments (DEV/TEST and production infrastructure). In this role, the successful candidate will provide technical assistance, administer configurations, support testing, recommend enhancements, troubleshoot and resolve issues associated with the various network components


Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Establish remote management connectivity, updating the operating systems, coordinating and performing verification test (BER or "burn-in" tests) configuring alarm and system profiles, and configuring/testing various layers of the OSI model.

  • Conduct COMSEC responsibilities; operation and maintenance of associated cryptographic devices and their configurations. 

  • Provide network planning and engineering support for all in-service operational DRSN systems. 

  • Provide technical and operational support for network expansions, and modernization of telecommunications backbone systems.

  • Provide problem resolution for all hardware and software elements of the data communication circuits maintained by the work center to include Commercial and GFE owned networks. 

  • Provide outage and restoration information as required to include restore times. 

  • Ensure the availability of the circuits in coordination with others work centers as required. Perform status updates and circuit monitoring as required. 

  • Work closely with network/systems engineers and site personnel to coordinate deployments and maintenance actions.

  • Evaluate system network requirements and make appropriate technical recommendations.

  • Provide network operations change, configuration, and problem management sustainment and engineering support.

  • Support incident management/fault isolation tier escalation requests. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 4-8 years of relevant experience. Specific years of related experience, training, and/or certifications accepted in lieu of a degree.

  • Currently possess Security+CE certification.

  • Currently possess a DoD TS/SCI security clearance.

  • Proficiency in at least two or more of the following devices: SONUS SBC, Juniper MX5 routers, Juniper SRX firewalls, Juniper EX switches, KG-175D.

  • Expertise in IP technologies, i.e. networking architectures, methodologies and voice services.

  • Support the maintenance and monitoring activities, network and systems operation and administration; scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, fault isolation, and service restoration. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of configuring, deploying and supporting HAIPE (KG-175D). Specifically utilizing GD GemOne/Chimera.

  • Ability to interpret network topology diagrams and proposed device configuration changes.

  • Proficiency in at least one of the following tools:  SolarWinds or Junos Space

  • Circuit restoration, fault isolation, quality control testing, trend analysis, performance monitoring, and status reporting experience is desired.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $66,300.00 - $102,000.00 - $137,700.00
