Are you passionate about protecting our planet? We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Environmental Analyst to make a real difference. As our Lead Environmental Analyst, you will be responsible for implementing crucial National Science Foundation (NSF) environmental protection programs in one of Earth's most unique and precious environments - the Antarctic. You will be working within the regulatory framework of the U.S. Antarctic Conservation Act and the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty. Deployment to McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and/or South Pole Station, Antarctica may be required of this position at the discretion of management, usually annually or bi-annually for periods of three weeks to four months. Eligibility for deployment will require a physical and dental evaluations with parameters determined by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Per contract requirements, US Citizenship is required. Failure to meet these requirements will result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.

About the Antarctic Support Contract:

Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF’s Office of Polar Program’s Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:

  • Vision:  Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.

  • Mission To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.

Leidos ASC provides science and logistics support for approximately 150 science and technical events across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research across multiple science disciplines.  The planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica is a critical part of our mission.

The Challenge:

  • Assists or leads in the preparation of documentation for assessing environmental impact (EIA)

  • Mitigate environmental impacts

  • Environmental policy development and implementation

  • Proposal reviews

  • Environmental permitting

  • Land use planning and habitat conservation

  • Environmental monitoring programs, including audits, inspections, water quality analysis, and/or soil sampling analysis.

  • Technical reports based on the interpretation of data, observations, and current regulations regarding inspection findings and recommendations for corrective action. 

What Sets You Apart:

  • B.S. in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Environmental Management, Science (Geology, Biology, Chemistry), and/or Environmental Engineering or other related science or engineering field is required. 

  • Ten (10) years of diverse experience in environmental protection, environmental management systems, environmental policy, execution of environmental science grants, or environmental consulting with demonstrated increases in responsibility. 

  • Current knowledge of the Antarctic Conservation Act and Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty preferred.

  • Current knowledge of various EPA regulations required, including the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Clean Water Act (CWA), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Oil Pollution Act (OPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and/or Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) regulations. 

  • Working knowledge of standard sampling and analysis procedures for soil, drinking water, and wastewater is required. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. 

You Might Also Have:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. is preferred.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $84,500.00 - $130,000.00 - $175,500.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
