The Leidos Defense Group currently has an opportunity for a Nutrition Research Scientist III to work with our team in Natick, MA. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your talents and expertise to support our US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command - Solider Center (CCDC-SC) mission.
Primary Responsibilities
Work with the Food Protection and Innovative Packaging team to identify areas of potential contamination through spectral imaging and validate treatments for eliminating pathogens on various surfaces. Work includes inoculation trials, efficacy studies, generation and interpretation of spectral images and data analysis.
Contribute to spectral imaging and analysis studies of operational ration components, fresh fruits and vegetables and other fresh fruits as part of an effort to tie imaging results to indicators of quality or quality degradation.
Contribute to and conduct bacterial and viral reduction efficacy studies on various surfaces using sanitizers, UV-C and potentially combinations of multiple treatment methods. Work includes study design, propagation of pathogens, data collection/analysis and determination of follow-on steps based on results.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, or equivalent field with 4 or more years of relevant experience. Additional experience, training, and/or certifications may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
Experience in spectral imaging.
Experience in bacterial and viral propagation, enumeration, and culturing techniques.
Proficient in data analysis software such as GraphPad, SAS or equivalent.
Experience in spectral imaging generation, analysis, and interpretation of data.
Experience working in a Biological Safety Level (BSL) 2 laboratory and handling/disposing of pathogenic bacteria and virus.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail
Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple actions at any given time.
Excellent analytical and technical skills
Ability to work independently as well as with others in a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, or equivalent field with 2 or more years of relevant experience.
Experience with Military commodities
Pay Range:
Pay Range $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 - $162,000.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
