The Defense Group at Leidos currently has an opening for a Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Mission Commander (MC), Level II to support CONUS and OCONUS operations. The MC will support contracted flight operations and must meet our high standards of aviator skill, safety, professionalism, and customer focus. MCs may be required to live and work in austere conditions. In this role, the MC will support all flight operational duties in the Buckeye Arrow UAS aircraft from flight planning, pre- and post-flight operations as requested by the Site Operations Manager (SOM) or Flight Operations Manager (FOM). MCs will manage the operation of aircraft and communications systems essential for conducting operations.  Multiple opportunities exist for position upgrade and leadership skills development.

THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)

  • Manages daily Electro-Optical (EO)/Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) collection mission planning, focusing on operational efficiency and compliance with applicable government, host-nation, and company policies and regulations

  • Oversees aircraft operations supporting DoD-directed EO/LIDAR collection

  • Schedules flight operations and provides crew composition recommendations to program leadership

  • Provides crewmember performance evaluations and upgrade recommendations to program leadership

  • Manages flight and ground operating procedures and flight crew information dissemination

  • Validates flight plans considering factors including altitude, terrain, weather, range, aircraft weight, airfield facilities, and navigation system capabilities and limitations

  • Assures aircraft and ground station flight readiness IAW DCMA INST 8210.1C requirements

  • Formulates and implements contingency/emergency response plans to minimize operational disruptions to natural or manmade events

  • Participate in teleconferences as required

  • Completes daily and weekly operational reports as required

WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)

  • BA/BS Degree and four (4) years experience, MA/MS degree and two (2) years experience, or PHD.  Additional experience may be used in lieu of degree.

  • 250 hours total time in a UAS or traditional ISR airframe

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a current FAA Class II Medical Certificate

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Must possess a current passport

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license

  • Must read, write, speak and understand English

  • Must possess an active DOD security clearance at the SECRET level, or higher

  • Ability to successfully meet all contractual / program training and DoD medical requirements for OCONUS travel, COVID testing requirements, attending and successfully completing CONUS Replacement Courses (CRC) within 90 days of hire.

Security Clearance Requirement

  • Must possess an active DOD security clearance at the SECRET level, or higher

Preferred Qualifications

  • 500 hours pilot in command time in a Group 3 UAS or traditional ISR airframe

  • Former U.S. Military, Customs, DEA Pilot or US Contracting ISR Pilot

  • U.S. Military Standardization Instructor Pilot, Instructor Pilot, Maintenance Pilot

  • Prior OCONUS rotation experience, particularly in current area of operation

  • Experience with TigerShark UAS or similar platform

  • Prior Lead pilot or operator experience

  • Willingness to complete the UAS Pilot Training Program

  • Willingness to upgrade and assume additional aviation administration responsibility

AIRBORNE ISR

Pay Range:

Pay Range $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 - $162,000.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
