The Damage Control Engineer shall join the Gibbs & Cox Survivability Team to strengthen the recoverability pillar of subject matter expertise. The Damage Control Engineer will be responsible for providing ship design guidance for implementing survivability design features to restore and maintain functionality after sustaining damage. functionality after sustaining damage. The Damage Control Engineer shall instruct damage mitigation concepts related to events such as

Primary Responsibilities

  • Instruct damage mitigation concepts to neutralize the effects of damage to the ship as related to events such as:

    • Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) defense

    • Conflagration and Firefighting

    • Underwater shock and Air Blast

    • Collision and Grounding

    • Ballistic protection

    • Watertight Integrity

  • Incorporate damage control doctrine including system activation and human-in-the-loop actions in the event of shipboard flooding and fire into ship analysis.

  • Knowledge of shipboard fire protection and suppression systems related to Navy platforms and systems such as Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), Halon/Heptafluoropropane (HFP), Water Mist, and Magazine and Miscellaneous Sprinkling Systems.

  • Develop CDRLs associated with ship survivability and present results to customer

  • Identify design deficiencies and develop recommendations for solutions

Basic Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Engineering, or similar with 5+ years of relevant work experience in the arena of ship recoverability and/or damage control

  • Knowledge of Ship Survivability

  • Familiarity interpreting and applying relevant military standards

  • Demonstrated competence in mathematics and statistical analysis

  • Experience with 3D CAD Modeling software and Modeling and Simulation (M&S) techniques

  • Familiarity with key stakeholders and customers located in shipbuilding industry and relevant government entities such as Naval Surface Warfare Centers, NAVSEA, OPNAV, etc.

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

  • Ability to work independently and with remote team members and/or customers

  • U.S. Citizen and must currently hold a US SECRET security clearance

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Damage Control for surface combatant and/or submarine ship design(s)

  • Intermediate knowledge of naval architecture and marine systems

  • Strong technical writing and written and oral communication skills

Pay Range:

Pay Range $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 - $162,000.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
