This position is remote but ideal candidate would need to be located in:
In this role, the qualified individual will be expected to:
- Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical/Electrical design for medium to large scale utilities/substations (including basic layout, electrical arrangement, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section, grounding, AC and DC system drawings)
- Perform and review advanced engineering studies and calculations.
- Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects.
- Develop and review scopes of work for substation physical projects.
- Develop and provide advanced technical presentations to the team to assist with staff technical development.
- Be involved in client interaction (including site visits) with a drive for customer satisfaction.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with the internal teams and clients to meet project objectives.
- Lead preparation and reviews of proposals, technical write-ups, estimates and project approach documents for projects within the discipline of expertise.
- Act as technical lead of project team for substation physical design projects
- Provide assistance in resource allocation and project team collaboration and assignments.
- Ensure project team communicates efficiently to deliver on schedule high quality work products.
- Follow and champion adherence to Leidos' PDS Quality Management Standards
- Identify and resolve project issues including proactive communication and collaboration with client.
- Ensure collaboration across disciplines and resolve design conflicts as required.
- Apply client standards, national standards (NESC, IEEE & IEC) and applicable state and federal safety, regulatory compliance requirements, and construction codes
- Perform quality checks and lead design review meetings for projects within the associated discipline of expertise.
- Frequent contact and communication with client discussing and resolving all project related issues including scope, schedule, budget and technical related issues.
- Develop client relationships across various disciplines including engineering, construction, project management, procurement and commissioning and field personnel.
What you will bring to the table:
- 8+ years of Substation physical design experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, civil or related degree
- Comprehensive understanding of the utility grid (power generation, transmission, and distribution) system.
- Experience with advanced engineering studies and calculations (lighting, grounding studies, Arc flash, AC & DC load studies, volt-drop, lightning studies and protection)
- Experience with HV and MV Physical Electrical Design for medium to large scale utility substations (Including Electrical Layout, Design and Specification for: -DC Systems – Station Service, Battery, DC Panels and Switchgear, Chargers, ATS, MTS AC Systems – AC Station Service, AC Panels and Switchgear, AC Transformer Auxiliary Power)
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E) license.
It would be nice if you had:
- Master’s degree in related field
- Working knowledge of protection and control design
- Experience with bus calculation
- Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS

Pay Range:Pay Range $97,500.00 - $150,000.00 - $202,500.00
