The Leidos Public Health Operation is seeking, contingent upon contract award, to support a Modernization effort for the CDC.
Role is expected to be fully remote
Must currently reside in the United States for the last three consecutive years
Designs the overall database architecture. Develops data models that specify how data will be organized, stored, and accessed in the database. Uses modeling tools to create logical and physical models of the database. Defines database standards, such as naming conventions, data types, and data validation rules, to ensure consistency and data integrity across the organization. Optimizes database performance by designing indexes, partitioning data, and optimizing queries. Monitors database performance and make adjustments as needed. Ensures that the database is secure by implementing security measures, such as user access controls, encryption, and data masking. Manages database operations, such as backup and recovery, database replication, and disaster recovery planning. Monitors database availability and ensure that the database is operating at peak performance. Collaborates with software developers, system administrators, and network engineers, to ensure that the database architecture is integrated with other IT systems and that data flows smoothly.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and 12 years of progressive IT experience
- Experience developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models per business requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developign and enforcing data standards on a large IT programs.
- Must have prior experience as a Database Administrator to include tasks such as data migration, data replication, user administration, backup and recovery, performance tuning, issue investigation, issue resolution, and general administration.
- Must have a good understanding of databases, primarily SQL Server and/or other relational and non-relational/NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
- Understanding of database clusters, data streaming, change data management, and disaster recovery approaches for high availability database management systems.
- Experience improving performance of database by introducing strategies with indexes, partitioning data, and optimizing queries
- Experience with planning and implementing database operations, such as backup and recovery, database replication, and disaster recovery
- Familiar with Microsoft SQL Server and the MSQL Server Management Studio tool set.
- Must have experience using SQL/PLSQL, and SQL in general.
- Experience scripting with JavaScript, Bash/Linux shell scripting (in general), Perl, and/or Python.
- Must have knowledge of DevSecOps, CI/CD, and Database as Code approaches.
- Must be committed to adopting and adhering to best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with analytics and visualization tools such as Databricks, SAS Viya, Tableau, and Power BI
- Knolwedge of Data Warehouse, Data Mart, Data Lake implementations
- SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle Certifications
- Experience with CDC/Public Health
- Experience as a personnel manager of a staff of technologists
Requires ability to obtain Public Trust level 5 clearance

Pay Range:
Pay Range $118,300.00 - $213,850.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
