Leidos Corporate Office of Technology has an immediate opening for a Chief Software Architect to join our Software Accelerator team. The Chief Software Architect is responsible for defining and driving software technology differentiation and realization across the enterprise. They will work with cross-functional teams to understand mission challenges, external technology trends, and complementary technology like AI/ML and Cybersecurity and create software solutions while identifying and evaluating emerging technologies.

The ideal candidate needs strong leadership skills to lead teams and projects, develop technical solutions, and ensure initiatives align with overall business objectives. They will also need executive-level communication and collaboration skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the technical strategy and vision of software across the enterprise in collaboration with the overall Leidos business strategy.

  • Work with cross-organizational, cross-functional teams to understand business needs and create differentiated software solutions that meet those needs.

  • Lead and influence research and development projects for software and identify emerging technologies and trends.

  • Provide thought leadership for software development across the enterprise.

  • Support project management to help ensure Software Accelerator projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the appropriate level of quality.

  • Mentor and coach other software architects and thought leaders, helping to develop their skills and grow their careers and become more involved in the trajectory of software at Leidos.

  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to ensure alignment of software development activities with overall business objectives.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 17+ years of experience in software development and architecture or Master’s degree and 15+ years in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience with microservice architectures, container orchestration and large-scale system of systems; distributed data technologies and storage; cloud, on-premise and air-gapped environments, and exposure to and interest in resilient systems, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

  • Expert with Agile development methodologies and leading Agile teams.

  • Experience in leading large-scale software development initiatives in highly regulated environments.

  • Familiarity and experience with communicating software and environment architectures to IT and non-software professionals for communicating and collaborating on system and security risks.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Experience with edge, embedded, or hardware systems development is a bonus.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Java, C/C++, Python and other programming languages.

  • Knowledge of software security practices including secure coding, ethical hacking, and threat modeling.

  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD principles.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and infrastructure orchestration and automation.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $142,350.00 - $257,325.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
