Utilizes human centered design, design thinking, and human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to enhance the user experience in the design of systems and products. Designs and conducts research methodologies and analyses to assess current systems and prototypes for new products and processes. Collaborates with design and development engineers to define solution, system design, operation, and training needs, ensuring efficient and effective user experiences. Identifies and addresses technological challenges or risks, conducts theoretical human factors investigations, and devises research and analysis strategies to optimize user interaction and satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Engage with multiple, diverse teams to support the UX needs of advanced internal research projects and customer programs
  • Lead planning and execution of end-to-end UX lifecycle including activities such as discovery, user research, prototyping, design, testing, and end user support
  • Work as part of diverse teams within various projects to understand mission needs, current environments, pain points, user values and goals, and the technical solution space, to create optimal experiences that meet mission needs
  • Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to drive design decisions and ensure newly developed tools and technology will meet mission needs while maximizing user adoption
  • Leverage research data to plan, test, and evaluate design prototypes to ensure they meet needs prior to development
  • Serve as a technical expert on UX for projects, ensuring that advanced technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, and others, transition successfully into wide operational use with maximum user adoption
  • Work to achieve key project/program objectives and deliverables
  • Regularly employ ingenuity and creativity to develop new solutions in order to achieve objectives.


  • Communicate with internal team members across multiple areas and also customer team members and external partners
  • Engage with audiences of various needs and backgrounds to articulate the UX process, value and impact

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of applied UX, Master’s degree and 2+ years of applied UX, or 8+ years of applied UX
  • Ability to communicate effectively about UX and its relationship to product design, organizational impact, and customer experience with a broad range of audiences, particularly expert end-users, but also internal leaders, external customers, sophisticated technical experts, and also those with little or no relevant technical background

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years experience developing UX for systems that leverage AI
  • Security clearance preferred.  The ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance is strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering solutions meeting mission needs for Defense, Intelligence, or Civil government customers
  • Formal credentials in design, graphic design, human factors, industrial psychology, and/or UX
  • Experience in developing novel UX for AI systems that foster user trust
  • Experience with broad set of current interface and software design tools and elements including (but not limited to): Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, Axure, Illustrator, InDesign, Kibana, Tableau, Confluence, Jira, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Familiarity with common design systems such as Material or US Web Design System
  • Familiarity with Accessible design

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
