Leidos is seeking a Director, Media Relations to provide expertise and leadership in earned media relations, media strategy, and crisis and reputation management. S/he is responsible for oversight of the design and implementation of media strategies that include: creating proactive campaigns to effectively position Leidos as a thought leader in core markets; developing and overseeing comprehensive crisis communications strategies as issues arise; and creating plans to proactively position and raise the profile of Leidos, its Chief Executive Officer, and leadership. The Director will report to the SVP, Director of Communications & Marketing. The position requires the individual to be located in Reston, VA.
Job Responsibilities Include:
-Develop and cultivate relationships with key media in tier one and trade industry outlets.-Act as an on-the-record spokesperson.-Craft and execute proactive media campaigns to effectively position Leidos in four core markets: Defense & Intelligence, Civil, Health, and Advanced Solutions. -Identify media opportunities for the Executive Leadership team.-Serve as a trusted resource for the senior leadership team around media relations and strategy. -Develop messaging and talking points to be leveraged in media interviews and public events.-Provide media training and counsel to Leidos leadership and subject matter experts. -Organize media outreach campaigns, press events, and other activities.-Provide timely and accurate responses to media requests. -Work closely with all communications functions (marketing, digital, social, internal) to identify and develop opportunities to integrate media into collaborative communications campaigns.-Develop and maintain relationships with Leidos subject matter experts.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Communications, English or Journalism and 12 years overall work experience. Master's degree or post-graduate work preferred and 10 years of experience. -Work experience must include10 years of corporate communications and/or public relations experience, specifically leading media relations efforts in support of organizational priorities.-Minimum of four years of managerial experience.-Demonstrated expertise in advising senior executives and overseeing a company's response to sensitive corporate topics, including crisis and issue management.-Experience managing financial communications for a publicly listed organization.-Excellent presentation, public speaking and written communication skills.-Successful track record in securing tier-one and industry media placements.-Proven expertise as an on-the-record spokesperson or press secretary.- Demonstrated expertise in the planning and execution of proactive media campaigns for large, complex organizations that engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders.-Knowledge of federal contracting preferred.
