Job Description:

Leidos's Military & Veterans Solutions Health Group is currently seeking a part-time Clinical Psychology Researcher to support human subjects' research protocols with the Naval Health Research Center's Warfighter Performance Department in San Diego, CA aimed at improving treatment for wounded warriors with post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, and other co-morbid disorders. The successful candidate will provide expertise in clinical psychology treatments related to these projects and will report to the Program Manager, Principal Investigator (PI), and other assigned study personnel to contribute to human subjects' research protocols. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and careful attention to detail are required.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Researching, developing theories, and devising methods to bring applicable psychological therapy methods to research projects aimed at improving treatment for wounded warriors and beneficiaries; applying those therapies for patients as part of rehabilitation research projects
    • Understand, research, and apply theories and practices of exposure therapies for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Clinical Behavioral Therapy, and Prolonged Exposure Therapy
    • Incorporate these therapies into novel treatment programs and research protocols
  • Plan and execute research protocols aimed at creating novel rehabilitation for wounded warriors with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other co-morbid disorders
  • Maintain substantial knowledge of PTSD, TBI, and related treatments and therapies, as well as current research in these areas
  • Assist Principal Investigators and other project leads with research protocol development, solution design, protocol and process refinement, and project execution
  • Collaborate with clinicians, military and academic investigators, and other stakeholders at participating Military Treatment Facilities including Naval Medical Center San Diego, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, and other clinical settings to obtain access to patient populations, gain knowledge about standard treatments, and determine needs of the military and beneficiary patient population
  • Provide care to patient populations in support of research protocols aimed at improving treatment for wounded warriors and beneficiaries
  • Review patient results and other project data, analyze findings, and create authored works for scientific and project reports, presentations, and publications reporting results from research protocols
  • Contribute to project meetings with primary team members and collaborators
  • Contribute to proposal development and submission by developing new solutions for treatment of PTSD, TBI, and related disorders and submitting these proposals to appropriate funding agencies for consideration
  • Complete required trainings and continuing education for human subjects research protocol involvement, certification and licensure, as well as trainings required by the local military command and Leidos

Required Qualifications
  • Must have a doctoral degree in psychology or a related field
  • Must have an active license in Clinical Psychology
  • Must have had an American Psychological Association-approved internship (pre-doctoral) or American Board of Professional Psychology certification
  • Experience with exposure therapies for PTSD
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Must be able to work at the customer site in San Diego, as well as clinics located in the San Diego area
  • Must be able to travel in the local San Diego area, nationally, and internationally as required for data collection, patient sessions, meetings, and conferences

Desired Qualifications
  • Active, credentialed provider at Naval Medical Center San Diego
  • Trained in PE, or CPT, or EMDR
  • Experience treating military or veteran populations
