In this role, you will develop engineering designs and site adaptation of standard engineering designs for electrical power systems, including low voltage power distribution systems for mission critical facilities (208V, 240V & 480V).
Specific duties for the position include:
Perform Arc Flash Hazard energy calculations and conduct Arc Flash Hazard site assessments.
Conduct engineering analyses/studies including short circuit analysis calculations, circuit breaker coordination, and ground fault calculations as well as Special Projects support to improve the simplicity, reliability, and availability of such systems.
Perform facility electrical inspections on the power systems installed or modified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for compliance with the applicable FAA orders and directives.
Review engineering packages and submittals provided by FAA contractors and vendors.
Complete written responses and track action items associated with the action items identified while performing facility inspections and site visits.
Participate in the review and revisions of FAA power orders and specifications as requested.
Prepare briefings and white papers on a variety of power related issues that need to be briefed and reported to upper FAA management and executives.
Prepare technical document requirements and develop training requirements related to power systems that are being fielded.
Participate in the review and rewriting of power systems related orders, standards and specifications.
Coordinate a wide variety of program management activities with FAA Organizations, Contractors, local authorities and the program office in the design, acquisition, implementation, project close out, testing and evaluation as tasked by the program manager.
Additionally, you may be asked to develop course material for NFPA part 70 (NEC) or other materials as requested by the FAA.
Typical education and experience:
Typically requires BS degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience.
May possess a Doctorate in technical domain.
Professional Engineering License (PE) is required Current and relevant experience designing electrical distribution for commercial, industrial and/or government facilities, including main building distribution system, standby engine generator and un-interruptible power systems.
Experience with power system analysis software such as EDSA Power Analytics, SKM Systems Analysis Power Tools, or similar.
Ability to conduct and interpret power studies including load analysis, arc flash analysis, and short circuit analysis.
Proficiency with Autocad or Microstation.Ability to prepare engineering reports, engineering evaluations, white paper positions, develops training requirements and cost comparative analyses.
Ability to assess inefficiencies in power systems that have been modified over time and have become poor performers.
Ability to develop an action plan that can improve the facility performance and reliability supporting FAA Air Traffic Operations without loss of service.
Ability to travel to facilities within the continental US (CONUS), the territories of the US, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. (up to 50% travel).
Ability to work independently yet maintain a positive relationship with the engineering team
Experience with the implementation and inspection of the following power service critical power systems: Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, Air Route Traffic Control Center Critical Essential Power Systems (ACEPS), National Air Space (NAS) radial systems.
In-depth understanding of en-route and terminal NAS operations, FAA field operations, Service Area Organizations, and Headquarters Operations.
