Job Description:

Our program is focused on the delivery of end-user centric IT technology solution to our Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) customer where we are challenged to provide ongoing innovative and seamless experience while using CMS systems, applications and solutions, provide proactive secure development of IT integrations, concepts, and designs across the CMS enterprise and integrate end-user computing devices, conference room technology, infrastructure hardware and software, and user applications into a streamlined and seamless experience across the CMS user base. We foster a positive end-user experience while ensuring protection of the data.

Leidos is l ooking for a technically-savvy, entrepreneurial and passionate Technical Writer. You will play an instrumental role in creating various types of documentation that includes technical specifications, how-to guides, core developer documents, references, manuals, and more.

Under the general direction of a Communications and Training Manager, this position will be responsible for documentation of all the aspects of the service delivery under the program from the technical diagrams, instructional documentations and knowledge articles.

Primary Responsibilities

Under the general supervision, you will be responsible, to include, but not limited to:

  • Write and edit product, project, and technical documents, including procedures, processes, functional descriptions, system specifications, reports, manuals, guidelines, training, briefings and presentations, special reports, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with document authors during the editing process and, when necessary, interview technical staff to obtain additional information required for the documentation.
  • Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and management ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations.
  • Consult with relevant information sources, including library resources, technical documents, and client and project personnel, to obtain background information, and verify pertinent guidelines and regulations governing project deliverables.
  • Manage the development and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables - perform technical edit and support quality reviews; perform document conversion to PDF and test for Section 508 compliancy, where needed.
  • Ensure documents meet editorial and government specifications and adhere to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style.

All candidates supporting the CMS programs must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years prior in order to be considered.

Basic Qualifications
  • BA/BS in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent work experience and minimum 4 years of relevant
  • Excellent ability to capture technical solutions and designs and translate in technical documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an understanding of programming concepts, operating systems, and/or networking.
  • Experience with document structure and logic flow, as well as writing for non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Experience in document and repository management practices, working with engineering, scientific, and maintenance drawings and/or operational procedures, developing new and/or refining existing technical writing processes to enhance quality and productivity, awareness of Agile Scrum methodologies, software/hardware development principles, Microsoft Word template and macro development.
  • Possesses strong writing and editing background, is self-organized.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to research and organize process work steps in a concise and discernible manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while ensuring technical accuracy, adherence to documentation standards, and a timely delivery of all work products.
  • Knowledge and experience with various documentation tools including MS Office Suite (MS Word, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Visio), MS Project, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, Snagit.
  • Experience working with government personnel specifically supporting CMS a plus.
  • Proficient with Jira and Confluence a plus.
