Job Description:

Leidos's Military & Veterans Health Solutions Group is seeking a full time Research Assistant Epidemiologist to work with the Department of Defense (DoD) HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP) in San Diego, CA.

Primary Responsibilities

This individual will work with experienced epidemiologists to perform research in the area of HIV risk behaviors and prevention.

The candidate will perform:
  • Literature searches; identify and apply appropriate published information to the research protocol. Candidate will also determine which articles are most relevant to the project's objectives, or those which provide evidence for its methodology or approach.
  • Assist with research study logistics (create, submit, and maintain ethics approval documentation, coordinate and participate in planning meetings, critically review study procedure documentation).
  • Design questionnaires; both arranging a core set of established questions into a survey application, and participating in discussions and decisions to include new questions that are of interest to investigators.
  • Assist with training of data collection staff; includes the training of military staff on the approved information gathering procedures and methodology. It also includes observing the start of data collection in order to verify that procedures are followed. In addition, electronic records from data collectors are received and appended into one secured file (database) in preparation for data analysis.
  • Create databases; use off the shelf statistical packages to analyze data by writing instructions with commands associated with that package, then apply it to a data file.
  • Analyze data; candidate will decide (or know when to ask for guidance) when data points should be collapsed/grouped (due to missing values or low responses). Additionally, it should be noticeable when a result is atypical and should be flagged for further inspection/correction.
  • Create data tables and charts, and assist with producing reporting documents and presentation materials; written reports and presentation materials follow an established format. Candidate will write a preliminary draft describing the methodology and results. Descriptive data will be populated into established table formats. Candidate will need to determine what level of data detail is appropriate based upon what information has been requested and be able to interpret results and participate in discussions relating to the data and how it was collected.
