Job Description:

Leidos has an opening for a data scientist at a government agency in downtown Washington, DC. US Citizenship is required.

The candidate will assist with improving data usage across the agency. The individual would support the team to identify their analysis needs and data availability, and then evaluate current analysis practices. They would then propose improvements in data curation and analysis to enable to team to perform their jobs faster and more consistently. They might prototype the workflows and teach the team how to continue the processes.

Primary Responsibilities

Developing new workflows to improve existing analyses.

Mentor others who are learning data management best practices

Determine how to collect data in a formal and systematic manner.

Help to determine next-generation data collection and analysis needs, such as web forms, online database, etc.

Helping groups understand the sorts of analyses that could be performed with the data that they already collect, as well as what additional data would be needed to perform the sorts of analyses that they desire.

Creating sample informational products based on existing data to demonstrate the art of the possible.

Basic Qualifications

BS in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, statistics, epidemiology, or a related discipline and 2 years of relevant experience OR MS in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, statistics, epidemiology, or a related discipline and less than 2 years of relevant experience

US Citizenship is required; candidate must also be eligible fora a Public Trust clearance

Experience managing structured and unstructured data sets, in particular with cleaning, extracting, and validating with automated methods.

Experience with R and Python scripting and related packages for processing, analyzing, and visualizing data.

Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS) and/or developing succinct visualizations of geographic, time series, and proportion data.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

MA or MS in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, statistics, epidemiology, or a related discipline or an additional 2-4 years' experience (4-8 total).

Experience managing and deploying databases and/or experience with emergency management and response.

Experience using Git and other source code management tools.

Experience working with cloud computing infrastructure, particularly in a Federal IT environment.

Experience with IT solutions in potentially low-resource environments (lacking reliable power and internet access for example).

Experience with electronic health record systems.

Experience with ESRI GIS products or Tableau.
