As the largest provider of IT services to the U.S. Government Leidos develops and sustains large data and technology infrastructures and integrates complex IT systems for almost every branch of the U.S. Government. We have a Systems Administrator - Tier I position who will support the Department Of Defense Automated Biometric Identification System (DoD ABIS) Sustainment Services and Service Life Extension program.

DoD ABIS is an information technology system that supports identity superiority by providing the critical capability for warfighters to identify known or suspected terrorists and third country nationals in the course of military operations. DoD ABIS is the authoritative biometrics enterprise system that provides matching, sharing and storing of biometrics data.

The capability can receive multi-modal biometrics submissions to include iris, face, palm and finger prints from biometrics collection devices, which will support the warfighter in making, retain, capture, or release decisions. By providing access and responding to requests the system has a direct impact on the availability of critical intelligence information that is of vital interest to DoD and other government agencies.

What you'll be doing:
  • Provide Systems Administration support services for the DoD ABIS 24x7 Operations Team to include remote troubleshooting of servers; security administration, maintenance, and network management.
  • Ability and willingness to operate in a shift-work environment
  • Open trouble tickets from calls and email, work as a team to resolve trouble tickets and calls regarding:
    • Identification and resolution of network connectivity issues, software and hardware upgrades, and general maintenance of servers and peripherals.
  • General systems and database operations, administration, maintenance, documentation, and reporting. Customer interaction is required in response to reported problems, defining requirements and data collection needs.
  • Collaboration and coordination with outside organizations will be periodically necessary such as trouble ticket elevation to tier three support, and collaboration with development team to provide information and data for elevated trouble tickets.
  • Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues encountered by users
  • Manage the configuration and operation of client-based computer operating systems
  • Monitor the system daily and respond immediately to security or usability concerns
  • Create and verify backups of data
  • Respond to and resolve help desk requests
  • Upgrade systems and processes as required for enhanced functionality and security issue resolution
  • Administrate infrastructure, including firewalls, databases, malware protection software and other processes
  • Review application logs
  • Install and test computer-related equipment, general systems and database operations, administration, maintenance, documentation, and reporting. Customer interaction is required in response to reported problems, defining requirements and data collection needs.
  • Collaboration and coordination with outside organizations will be periodically necessary such as trouble ticket elevation to tier three support, and collaboration with development team to provide information and data for elevated trouble tickets.

What qualifications you'll need to have to be considered:
  • Associate's degree in IT related field or 2+ years of systems administration or relevant IT experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, networking, SQL Server and Windows operating systems.
  • Ability to create scripts for system administration/setup, examines firewalls and ports to identify and fix communication issues, perform database maintenance, ensure data integrity and track hardware locations.
  • Fully proficient in the use of PC's and all programs included in the Microsoft Office application suite.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance and follow on ability to obtain TS/SCI
  • Must be able obtain Security + and environmental (Windows, CISCO, Red Hat) certifications as per DOD 8570 within 6 months of hire date


Our preferred qualifications and/or skills:
  • Prior DoD ABIS, IAFIS, Biometrics or related experience is a definite plus.
  • Previous experience with biometrics applications or complex IT systems on programs in support of DoD or other Gov't agency.
  • Possess at a minimum Security+ or one or more of the following certifications: GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC); A+ Essentials; Network +, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), or any other CE certificate approved by DoD 8570 at the AIT level II profile.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages in Microsoft .NET, Visual Basic or Visual C#, Web Administration (IIS), and software and hardware test procedures.
  • Basic Understanding of EFTs and have the ability to troubleshoot ingest errors using remote troubleshooting, maintenance and S/W distribution tools.
  • Military and/or national intelligence background with a clear understanding of the military structure, mission and responsibilities.
