Leidos is seeking a qualified Distribution Engineer to perform various design engineering functions in support of our electric utility clients' capital projects and programs.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have an interest in developing construction work packages for the electric distribution system projects (69kV and below) using various software systems and construction standards. Distribution systems may be in an overhead or underground, residential or commercial environment. Work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems.

Projects may include but are not limited to: re-conductoring, voltage conversion, infrastructure installation and replacements, overhead to underground conversions, distribution automation and grid modernization, and new business.

Project work will require performing engineering calculations that may include: structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices.

Assignments may also include: preparing vegetation management requests, facilitating permit and right-of-way acquisition, developing a bill of materials, estimating project costs, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements and/or planned outages.

Work assignments will include traveling by motor vehicle to various project locations located throughout the service area to conduct field investigations of existing and proposed facilities. Must have a valid, current driver's license

Qualifications:
• Typically requires Bachelors of Science in Engineering degree (EE or CE preferred) and 2 - 4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company, performing design engineering.
• Certifications and Licenses: Fundamentals of Engineer certification required; a Professional Engineering license is a plus for candidates with the requisite experience
• Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and client construction standards
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite of software (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)
• Experience with software such as: O-Calc, SAP, and MicroStation; ability and desire to learn a variety of software packages and databases as required
• Must be comfortable in both a field and office setting
• Must be able to lift 20 pounds
• Must possess the physical ability to support field work in, at times, rough terrain in order to access more remote project locations
