Leidos currently has an opportunity for an Aerospace Engineer in our King of Prussia, PA office.
The candidate must have experience in hypersonic aerodynamics, aeroheating, and trajectory modeling applied to high speed/reentry vehicles. It is highly desired that candidates also possess experience with multiple aspects of hypersonic/reentry physics. Examples of such phenomena include ablation, particle erosion, thermal protection systems, nosetip shape change, boundary layer transition, reentry plasma, hypersonic wake modeling and prediction of flowfield IR and RCS signatures.
The candidate must be able to apply computational fluid mechanics modeling for high speed (hypersonic) weapon systems. This includes the ability to apply grid generation tools and CFD modeling and simulation to determine aerodynamic coefficients, aerothermal environments, and flowfield chemistry to support design and analysis.
Candidates must have good understanding of high speed physics and be able to articulate physical explanation and justification of results. Additional responsibilities will include coordinating with the customer to ensure all objectives are met, preparing written and verbal deliverables, reports and presentations for management and customer review as required by the contract. It is also desirable that the candidate have experience with engineering software development and validation.
The successful candidate will have experience with business development. Position will require candidate to engage customers (new and old) with new ideas, develop technical solutions, write white papers and technical proposals, work with the pricing department to generate cost ROMs and pricing, and win new work. The candidate should be able to show evidence of past successful business development efforts.
Candidate should have the following skill set:
Masters or Ph.D. in an Aerospace or Mechanical (or similar) Engineering, Physics or Mathematics, and 3+ years of experience with CFD, grid generation, and modeling of flowfield physics for high speed weapons systems.
Must possess an active SECRET level security clearance (and ability to obtain TS).
Ability and willingness to learn new skills and subject matter areas.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
The applicant must be able to support a team in a collaborative, fast paced, environment. Dependability, initiative, and ability to solve problems both as part of a team and as an individual performer is a must.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; scientific programming (using FORTRAN, Matlab, C++, Perl or Python scripting, etc.); Linux and Windows operating systems.
Be willing and able to travel ~10% of the time for customer meetings and business development.
Following is desired but not required:
Experience with modeling of high speed vehicle wake IR and/or RCS signatures.
Experience with modeling at multiple levels of fidelity (from fast-running engineering or design level methods to high fidelity methods (RANS, hybrid RANS/LES).
Ability to use the DoD DSRC (Distributed Supercomputing Resource Center).
Proficiency with the Pointwise gridding software.
Active TOP SECRET clearance.
