Leidos is seeking an engineer to work as a software and field test engineer for an autonomous ship project. They will be joining an existing team which has already successfully delivered for our customers. Successful engineers will focus on solving problems, connecting with other members of the team, and sharing responsibility for making our systems work.
The engineer will develop software and perform field tests using that software on our autonomous and unmanned surface vessels. Software development is full lifecycle, including documentation and testing as part of an integrated Scrum team. Our team's development focuses include cybersecurity, communications, autonomy, and network engineering.
Field testing is all about taking what your team has produced and seeing it in action, and collaborating with other engineers to find solutions to problems. Testing occurs in several locations, including southern California, the Gulf Coast, and the Hampton Roads, Virginia, area. Field tests are scheduled in advance, and the engineer will support them in rotation with other members of the team. During a field test, the engineer will communicate with customer and partner organizations to understand system performance, so communications skills are key to success.
Our team develops and deploys advanced technology solutions that address existing and emerging maritime missions of national importance for a broad range of customers across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, other governmental agencies and commercial clients. We are currently seeking qualified, motivated, engineers to grow a team working unmanned and autonomous systems development. Current and future projects span advanced concept and prototype development, low-rate initial production and full-rate production.
Familiarity with Linux operation at the command line
Experience with C++ development on Linux
Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
Willingness to travel to support field tests
Communications skills and an ability to work with others to solve problems
Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance- US citizenship required
Experience with Python
Experience with system and/or network administration on a Linux platform
Experience with debugging software and system problems
Familiarity with RF communications
Experience with Linux/Windows security configurations
Experience with Software and hardware integration
Exposure to unmanned systems, artificial intelligence
