Leidos is seeking a Data Scientist intern in Abingdon, MD, to support the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) program. The Data Scientist will support a critical modernization effort for Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS); with the goal of satisfying the vision of Program Executive Office (PEO) Command Control Communications - Tactical (C3T) and Project Manager Mission Command. The Data Scientist will be expected to integrate and collaborate with all technical teams to assist in the delivery a fully-functional system.
The selected individual will work with the Data Science team to generate and prepare tactical and strategic data science products to support the AFATDS. The selected candidate will assist in the creation of Data Science products to include technical articles, mathematical analysis reports, algorithm development and validation methodologies. He/she will also work with Software Development teams to provide data models and code analysis.

-Undertake data collection, preprocessing and analysis.
-Pull data in response to specific data requests.
-Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
-Assist in development of presentation information using data visualization techniques.
-Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
-Assist in the development and analysis of algorithms to validate numerical methods used in project software.
-Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or a related technical degree, and have at least a 3.4 GPA.
-Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.).
-Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
-Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings.
-Experience importing/exporting, handling and manipulating medium to large datasets. (Real-time or AI/machine-learning NOT required).
-Strong skills and experience in Excel spreadsheet work including associated graphics (in Excel, and/or in commercial software like Tableau).
-Ability to learn rapidly client on-site data systems and access/download data for off-line analysis.
-SQL programming knowledge/experience not required but may be an advantage.
-MATLAB programming knowledge/experience not required but would be advantageous.
-Basic knowledge/experience with statistical methods (especially regression, control charting, simple data displays) an advantage but not a requirement (training as needed will be provided).
-Ability to function in a multi-discipline team; professional client-facing skills and communications both verbal and written. Willingness to solve problems arising ad-hoc.
-Productive in delivering monthly analytic reports with good time-management skills so as to balance competing and sometimes conflicting time demands.
-The ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
