Job Description:

As our new FPGA Design Engineer, working only 15 minutes from the beach in our San Diego, CA office, you will get to support applied research and engineering development of solutions and products in the fields of space and satellite systems, chemical, biological, radiation, and nuclear detection instrumentation. If you like providing FPGA input during the PCB hardware design phase and owning the FPGA/HDL development activities this could be the job for you. You will work closely with the science and manufacturing departments to facilitate transition of technology from the research stage to full production.

Fun stuff you will do on the job:
• Work side by side with the science team to develop ideas into solutions
• Contribute to all phases in a program life cycle, from proposal writing through program execution
• Support the PDR, CDR, and TRR phases of programs
• Support the program management staff with customer facing communications
• Lead a team of developers and provide mentorship to junior staff

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
• B.S. degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field from an accredited college/university with at least 8 years of experience developing FPGA solutions
• Must hold an active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
• Knowledge of VHDL and Verilog
• Knowledge of HDL testbench design, HDL design verification, regression testing
• Knowledge of FPGA architecture, design optimization, timing closure
• Motivated self-starter able to work under minimal supervision
• 5-15% travel to customer sites
• Strong written and oral communication skills

You will wow us even more if you have these skills:
• Masters' degree or higher
• Demonstrated leadership of technical teams and projects
• Experience with Xilinx Vivado, Virtex 7/Ultrascale/Ultrascale+
• Experience with assertion-based testbench design with System Verilog
• Experience implementing digital interface standards in FPGA designs (SPI, UART, I2C, USB, Ethernet, 10GbE, PCIe)
• Experience with Triple Module Redundancy (TMR) for space applications
• Experience with designing FPGAs for spacecraft
• Experience with signal processing algorithms, including FFTs, convolution, IIR filters, CORDIC, and their implementation in FPGAs
• Experience working with cross functional R&D teams developing embedded hardware for FPGA deployed solutions
• Experience with bring up and debugging activities of custom FPGA based PCBs
• Experience with Electro-optical systems
• Experience implementing interfaces such as Spacewire, GigE Vision, and CameraLink
• Experience with ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers (STM32, SiLabs, TI)
• Experience with OrCAD and PADS circuit design and layout tools for high speed digital designs
• Security clearance at the TOP SECRET level or above
