The Leidos Corporation is seeking a Project Safety Engineer (PSE) who will support U.S. research sites in Antarctica. The successful candidate will serve as a member of the Safety and Health team working on the United States Antarctic Program's (USAP). The PSE will be helping project management teams integrate safety & health, risk management considerations and provide safety oversight of projects throughout the program.
Our projects range from civil work, utilities, new facilities, renovations, repairs, and field science construction support. Construction efforts will be a mix of self-performed and subcontracted work. This position is based in Centennial, CO and requires periodic and perhaps multiple deployments to Antarctica in a single year. It is anticipated that the PSE will deploy each season, typically during the Antarctic austral summer of October to February. Deployments may sometime be required during August to October and/or February to June. Total deployment time is expected to be 4 to 5 months per year.
While in Centennial, the PSE will collaborate in the development and review of upcoming construction efforts. This includes the development of new, and review of existing, resource loaded schedules development of material takeoffs for self-performed work. The PSE will work will be integrated in the Project Management office and work closely with engineering staff, planning and controls, and project managers to ensure that designs are inclusive of relevant safety and health regulatory requirements and industry standards. The PSE will work in conjunction with construction managers and project manager will help ensure project safety plans are developed to capture OSHA and other applicable safety standard requirements.
The PSE will also work with Engineering and other Stakeholders on constructability reviews and in developing innovative and risk-integrated approaches to building design construction for Antarctica. While in Antarctica, the PSE will work with construction superintendents, trade supervisors, and work crews to ensure safety and health requirements are understood and followed during project execution.
Interacts with National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials in a professional and tactful manner, on an as needed basis. Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, providing various training courses, attending staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority on the job site. Complies with applicable safety, environmental, health, and waste management policies and procedure. Perform other duties as assigned.
- BS/BA in Safety, Engineering or related field is required. Candidates with related Masters or higher with unrelated undergrad degrees may be considered. Equivalent relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree when accompanied with professional certification such as CHST.
- Minimum of five years' experience with safety and health rules, regulations, standards, and risk management practices specific to construction industry. Working knowledge of basic industrial hygiene principles is required.

- CSP, CIH, CHMM, and/or CHST professional credentials
