Leidos is seeking a Safety Manager/Aviation Safety Officer that will advise and assist the Program and Quality Assurance managers on all safety matters, including: developing safety policy, developing safety goals, objectives, and priorities and integrating them into appropriate training guidance and developing corrective actions/control options for hazards and incidents. The candidate will work and travel in between customer sites as needed. Customer sites include Kandahar, Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
A rated pilot who manages/administers the safety program and assists in the execution of the safety Program. Advises the senior management on all aviation and ground safety issues. Functions as the safety subject matter expert. Monitor safety-related programs, including:
Observing flight and ground operations to detect and correct unsafe practices.
Conducting hazard analysis and risk assessments
Foreign object damage (FOD) prevention program
Observing aviation maintenance operations, making recommendations to correct unsafe procedures and practices
Coordinate with customer to ensure maintenance and flight practices are in compliance with safe practices and AR 95-20
Coordinate and lead flight safety meetings and quarterly safety councils
Conduct operational hazard analysis and tracking
Review, maintain, and develop program Flight Operation and Ground Operating Procedures to ensure compliance with AR 95-20 and government safety requirements
Conduct accident and incident investigation and reporting
Create, develop and teach initial and recurring EH&S and aviation safety education and awareness training
Coordinate fire prevention efforts and ARFF requirements in accordance with AR 95-20
Conduct operational hazard assessment, reporting, and analysis tracking
Monitor foreign object damage and ALSE programs
Conduct periodic safety audits and inspections
Review and maintain the program's Mishap Response Plan
Mentor and advise Afghan military ASOs and Ground Safety Technicians to perform all required duties.
Travel to other locations in Afghanistan as the mission dictates.
Bachelor's degree preferred, experience may be substituted in lieu of degree
FAA Commercial Pilot or US Military Pilot rating and the appropriate category endorsements. Needs to be a graduate of a Military Aviation Safety program preferably the Army Aviation Safety Course.
A rated pilot with 5 years of experience as an aviation system safety manager
As the position location is in Afghanistan, the following requirements need to be met:
Must be able to pass/qualify all CENTCOM CRC medical and training requirements
Active passport with a minimum of 12 months before expiration prior to start date
Visa with multiple entries for 12 months prior to start date
Completion of Customer required International Readiness Certifications prior to deployment
Failure to complete any of these actions within 60 days of accept will result in rescinding of the offer If the candidate is unable to pass the medical screening after the start date and prior to deployment an immediate administrative termination will be requested.
