Job Description:

Leidos is seeking a Cultural Resource Specialist at Eglin AFB, FL (might eventually move to Tyndall AFB, FL).

This position requires an energetic and flexible person to meet a varied and exciting work schedule. The candidate will work onsite at Tyndall AFB and the position requires robust coordination and communication with the government Cultural Resource Managers, the Base Historic Preservation officer and contractors.

Daily duties include, but are not limited to; document reviews, performing professional cultural studies such as contextual studies, installation or structure histories, oral histories, and ethno historical studies; archaeological inventory and evaluation; historic building inventory, evaluation, and documentation; archaeological site monitoring and protection; preparing archaeological research designs for testing and data recovery; preparing preservation and/or stabilization plans for archaeological/cultural sites and historic buildings; supporting preparation of NAGPRA Plans of Action and Comprehensive Agreements; tribal consultation support; supporting preparation of updates to the installation ICRMP; performing cultural resources sample or modeling surveys.

The candidate shall provide professional cultural resources guidance, support, and advice to government employees, and shall provide cultural resources training, conduct briefings, and participate in special assistance teams, as necessary.

Other duties may include:
  • Draft consultation letters and otherwise assist the CR PM in consultations with the SHPO, tribes, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and other interested parties.
  • Assist the CR PM during IG inspections, EMS audits, and other inspections or audits, as necessary and assist the CR PM with TRIRIGA Service Request reviews, AF813 reviews, AF103 reviews, Section 106 consultations, and environmental assessment reviews.
  • Prepare ARPA permits for any current or new projects on the installation that may disturb archaeological resources or require archaeological investigations.
  • Inspect archaeological sites and monitor sites as necessary to gather information on looting activities or damage.

Position Schedule 40 hours/week.

Travel: Less than 10 percent.

Required skills:

Ability to operate standard office software in a Government environment. Ability to work in a cross-functional team environmental with minimal daily direct oversight; Experience with Air Force/DOD.

Experience required: Must have at least five years of experience working in the Southeastern United States with at least two years in Florida; must have at least a Master's degree in anthropology or archaeology, or associated discipline, and be qualified per the Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualification Standards.
