Job Description:

The Defense group at Leidos has an exciting opportunity for a Software Development Manager to manage a high-performance software development team located near Wright Paterson AFB in the Beavercreek, OH office.


This is an opportunity to manage a variety of high visibility Air Force Logistics software development efforts in a newly implemented Azure GovCloud infrastructure. These efforts support over 25,000 users in the Weapon System, Vehicles, and Equipment, Maintenance, and Supply communities to solve some of the most challenging logistics problems facing the Air Force today.

The Leidos USAF Software Development Manager is accountable for managing and coordinating agile scrum teams to deliver critical software releases. In this role you will strengthen a cohesive and powerful team of software developers; collaborate with customers to ensure clearly defined user requirements, product definition and acceptance criteria, and communicate status and risks based on complexity, resource and timeline constraints.

  • Accountable for management of multiple concurrent projects
  • Manage and develop all direct reports into an efficient and highly productive software development team aligned to technical and business strategy
  • Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development
  • Lead the creation of the system design and functional specifications and provide senior level technical guidance for new development projects
  • Establishes goals and prioritizes work assignments of direct reports
  • Align teams to meet schedule and fulfill commitments
  • Implement appropriate development methodologies, best practices, and tools
  • Participate in defining the strategies for product development
  • Be highly engaged in the Agile development and the release management process
  • Work with Product Owners in defining the product vision
  • Oversee the planning and designing of software applications, including new programs, enhancements, and modifications
  • Work with the Software Development teams to plan and execute deliverables, ensuring that the teams have appropriate requirements, technical specifications, direction and resources to deliver solutions effectively with realistic estimates to meet business goals
  • Lead project teams in defining an MVP roadmap to enable development
  • Initiate and participate in code reviews
  • Plan, create, and track program releases in JIRA
  • Communicate with management, Scrum masters, team members and business groups on issues and the status of work planned and completed
  • Create and present progress (by development teams) to executive leadership
  • Manage communications between Business, Technology, and PMO Customer teams
  • Represent development teams and technology partners in program meetings

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering management with 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience
  • Strong work ethic and ability to multi-task on a sustained basis
  • Proficient in managing software development projects using modern Application Lifecycle Management methodologies such as Agile/SAFe methodology
  • Ability to analyze and balance across various aspect of software development - requirements, planning, tracking, quality, resource, budget, and capacity management
  • 5+ years of experience managing development teams in a Scrum or Kanban environment
  • Strong knowledge and experience with DevOps mechanism for cloud services
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Familiar with cloud-based development platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred)
  • Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance

  • An active DoD Secret clearance
  • Prior experience in Logistics Applications
  • Prior experience with USAF
  • Prior success in automating a real world production deployment
  • Experience using JIRA tool is a plus
